The long-predicted Sears bankruptcy is finally here. On Monday, Sears Holdings announced it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in an attempt to restructure the company and save the troubled retailer from oblivion.
Shoppers can expect more Sears store closures, as well as liquidation sales, in brick-and-mortar locations around the country: Sears, which owns its flagship brand and Kmart, says it will be closing an additional 142 stores by the end of the year. Which Sears Stores Are Closing?

We are ahead of the curve...our local Sears store closed about 8 years ago.
My town, Bozeman, MT, lost it’s K-Mart store several years ago — made sense as it was directly across the street from our Super Walmart and the prices just were too high.
The mistake K-Mart made:
Once the store was closed, they paid ALOT of money to level the store and it’s still a concrete pad.
Over the years any empty building in my area is refurbished and put back into service including several on the exact street K-Mart was on.
The property was worth MORE with a building on it than a vacant tract of land. This community is not Detroit and we don’t ‘tag’ empty buildings and loot them.
A total waste of money...
Oh well. I haven’t gone to a Sears since the 80’s.

It's sad to see this long, slow decline.
My very first credit card was from Sears back in 1981. I felt like a big shot walking around with that card. My initial credit limit was $300. I then went out and charged Craftsman tools, a stereo system and a pair of jeans without having to lay out any cash! Those were heady days! Then the bills came and I painfully paid it all back $15/mo at a time!
I also learned that making the minimum payment is no way to pay back a credit card! Hard to believe today but mailing out that $15 check every month was painful!
Stopped going to Sears over 15 years ago due to “late fee” charge dispute...incredibly stupid management of a $20 mistake on their part! They literally lost out on tens of thousands of $$$ in sales of appliances and other merchandise over the years.
I remember saying at the time saying that those idiots will eventually go bankrupt!
Interesting that our Flagstaff, AZ store is not on the list. They’re clearing out inventory and will be closed on the last day of November.
May have been on an earlier closure list................these are the new ones...............
Perhaps. Their announcement to close a month or so ago was not preceded by any rumors, but that may be how close the announcements are.
You could tell the place was doomed. Almost no shoppers in the store any time I went in to replace a Craftsman tool or the rare new purchase.

It is quite ironic that the original king of mail order ended up being crushed by the advent of online shopping instead of figuring out a way to capitalize on it.
They missed the Sears at The Galleria, in York, PA. It just closed last week.
Sears in Northwest ATL (at the mall) was near-empty last week. Shelves almost empty, even in tools. One salesperson on the lower floor.
Their other store closer to Atlanta at Cumberland was already scheduled for closure.
Earlier closure list....These are new...................
Ours is on the new list and it was the same. Whenever we went there, there were more employees than customers.............

Seriously, I think that was a part of the problem. Have you ever tried to but anything at Sears.com? Their site is a mess! If I do a product search (Google or Duck Go Go), and I see a link to Sears...I bypass it.
And this coming from one of the original behemoths in mail-order.
I used to love Sears.
