NASA eyes stunning 'cloud city' airship concept to explore Venus

NASA is considering a spectacular airship concept for Venus exploration.

The space agency’s Systems Analysis and Concepts Directorate (SACD) has posted potential designs of the High Altitude Venus Operational Concept (HAVOC) on its website. The airships have even been compared to a “cloud city” by Space.com.

A similar size to Earth, Venus is our closest planetary neighbor. However, exploring Venus poses a unique set of challenges, according to NASA. “Though its internal geology is similar to Earth’s, its surface is hot enough to melt lead and is covered with craters, volcanoes, mountains, and lava plains,” it explains.

I would advise first building a workable floating city here on earth to identify many of the unforeseen. Making a mistake on Venus will get you dead in a hurry.

Well that’s nice.

But how about first we have a usable launch vehicle again.

I loved that show, but time has sure not been kind to the special effects. :)

I’ve noticed in some rebroadcasts from the original 16mm film that you can tell they had an eye to the show being presented on low quality TV. I’ve noticed the same with the old Twilight zone episodes.

You can see all sorts of flaws in backgrounds, sets, etc, that they just know would not be noticeable on a TV, but is glaringly obvious on a modern flat screen.

Air density on Venus is 90x that of Earth.
It could very well work there and be impossible to build here.

Need to get permission from Lando Calrissian first.

Here on earth, water is roughly 780x the density of air. If you can’t first build a self contained floating city on water, then attempting to do so a few million miles away might be a tad bit more problematic.

“Attention: This is Lando Calrissian. Attention: The Democrats are taking control of the city. I advise everyone to leave before more Antifa, BLM, MS-13 and ‘immigrants’ arrive.”
That was all I could think of, sorry.

You can also see that Capt. Kirk used a stunt double to perform the fight scenes.

One of the fun parts of watching TOS on a modern flat screen is to see all the details you never saw back in the day. It’s like an easter egg hunt.
