Watched the riot unfolding on TV at home in OC - still can’t read or hear about Reginald Denny without tears. A bunch of animals were on the prowl that day but bless those men who rushed from their homes out to the intersection to help. Thanks for the post...
Thanks you so much for posting this series of images again. We must never forget and never forgive.
Ahead of their times for following Hillary’s advice to not be “civil.”
My feelings always go out to Reginald Denny for being so innocent as to get out of the truck cab to talk with them. He said he had no truck radio and was totally unaware of the black violence going on elsewhere that day.
I was in working in Detroit during the July,1967 black riots and we were not told about the riots the first day by the news media. The media endangered lives by this. Even at Tiger Stadium the Detroit Tigers owner told the booth crew to not utter a word about the rioting and looting nearby—but many were feeling afraid when they saw distant black smoke getting closer. Terrible to censor news. See my tagline.
I’m sorry but I have been having a big problem with the “forgive” stuff.
A full exploration of all sides of the issue are in the fine book Payback by Thane Rosenbaum. Maybe ask for it at the nearest library on interlibrary loan if they don’t own this obscure but excellent book.
The Forgiveness Myth...When You Can’t Or Won’t Forgive by Gary Egberg and Wayne Reiter ( spiritual approach) and
Forgiving What You’ll Never Forget by Dr.David Stoop (Christian minister) also explore this topic.
Maybe, to riff on what Hillary says, after the civil war I may become civil.
Sue the attacker and the reatarant for everything you can get.
