Some of the students at a western Nebraska high school and junior high may have fallen ill after consuming chili with kangaroo meat mixed with beef last week.

News Channel Nebraska first reported the mystery meat in chili served at Potter-Dix High School and Junior High was that of the marsupial.

The school’s head cook Kevin Frei said he added the kangaroo meat for its nutritional value and because it’s a lean cut.

While it’s unknown the extent of the illnesses and whether or not they were brought on by the meal, Potter-Dix Superintendent Mike Williams fielded several complaints from concerned parents.

Chili was invented to disguise the fact that you were eating spoiled and/or unidentified meat.

Rodent. Some jackass in Nebraska can’t seem to locate beef, but can find kangaroo.

Morons.

Was it the Roo meat or something undercooked or left out too long?

I was in Western Nebraska in August and I have never seen so many cows grazing. They have had a couple good years of rain and the corn and cows looked great.

Who knows where you would get a dead kangaroo in western nebraska. Denver, maybe?

Thanks Michelle Obama. Only way to give kids enough food to keep them from starving all day is to cut the beef with kangaroo.

I had a great aunt in Kimball, just west of Potter.

Rattlesnake would be a more common ingredient in chili. 30 years ago, a worker on her ranch was bit in the face wile inspecting one of her oil wells.

Big rats.

I used to love the Looney Tunes Sylvester the cat toons where he got clobbered by the kangaroo. Then his son would put the paper sack over his head and say, "Oh the shame of it." I still miss the Looney Tunes

My daughter was saved once by Potter, NE! Driving east from college in Laramie, WY. Coming home for a holiday in bad weather. She got behind a state snow plow and ended up off the road in the median. SEVERAL people in the town worked together to help her out, fed her, put her up overnight. They were amazing.

She sent a thank you note to “People of Potter, NE” and addressed it to “The Café”... or along that line.

Just a bit south in northern KS. My same question.

I have NEVER seen a kangaroo out here ‘cept in a zoo.

Maybe they have a catalog or web site!
