Ginsburg: Congress is to blame for polarizing judicial confirmation process
The Hill ^ | 10/25/18 | OWEN DAUGHERTY

The animosity and polarization surrounding the judicial confirmation process falls on Congress and its lack of a collaborative spirit, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Wednesday.

Speaking at a public event, Ginsburg said collegiality “means understanding the institution you work for is more important than the egos of the individuals,” according to the Washington Post.

She did not make reference to Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was confirmed by the Senate earlier this month in a 51-49 vote, with only one Democrat voting for him.

Ginsburg noted that she was confirmed in a 96-3 vote, and that the late Justice Antonin Scalia was unanimously confirmed.

“What a difference in time that was from what we are witnessing today,” she said, adding that there was not enough of an effort to “reach across the aisle” in Congress.

Ginsburg, 85, is the second-longest serving justice on the bench, behind only Justice Clarence Thomas.

She also talked about former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, saying she put “country above party and self-interest.”

O’Connor announced earlier this week that she is withdrawing from public life due to dementia.

That’s nice Ruth. But as long as you were up there couldn’t you have delivered a little tongue-lashing about character assassination?

How many times has this withered crone voted against the Left’s agenda? Starting her career as an ACLU lawyer set her voting record in stone.

It started with Bork.

This all got geared up real good at Ivy League Schools in the '70s with the calls for impeachment of Nixon. Just look at what is going on. We are watching a bunch of senile fools trying to make Watergate II. It's like watching "Springtime for Hitler" in the Producers. Except it is not nearly as well done.

The wise Latino has been campaigning for the rats on Hispanic TV networks. Bet Ruth didn’t mention that.

Clarence Thomas was confirmed by a Democrat-controlled Senate. Things have gotten a little more polarized over the years.

It’s the Supreme Court’s fault. Act like a super legislature and it’s no longer safe to let your opponents get a majority.

“Ginsburg said collegiality “means understanding the institution you work for is more important than the egos of the individuals,”...”

Ginsberg is sure she read that in a book, or something. She may consider considering that approach, maybe.

It’s the chicken and the egg. Congress would not politicize the appointment process if the courts were not politicizing their decisions. Which came first?
