Boston, Mass. – The rate of infectious disease (ID) markers, such as those for HIV and hepatitis B and C viruses (HBV and HCV), in donated blood is higher for men who have sex with men (MSM) relative to blood donors overall, according to an analysis of data from more than 8.4 million blood donations collected from January 2017 through September 2018 by the American Red Cross. However, the ID marker rates for reinstated (1.44%) and newly eligible (2.0%) MSM donors were similar to those of first-time male donors (1.52%). The findings were presented at the 2018 AABB Annual Meeting, held Oct. 13-16 in Boston.
“Progress has been made in changing the MSM deferral policy in the U.S.; however, it is still too early to know the impact of these changes,” said lead author Susan L. Stramer, PhD, vice president of scientific affairs at the American Red Cross Biomedical Services. “The number of donors newly eligible under the revised deferral policy is small. In addition, while the infectious disease marker rates for donations from reinstated MSM donors is higher than for overall donations, the rates in these reinstated donors is comparable to those of first-time male donors.”

I have been looking for specific numbers like this since the FDA blood donation policy was relaxed in 2015 (the data has been strangely hard to fine.) I applaud the large data set that was obtained, and the numbers so far extracted. But there is quite a bit of camouflaging being done to obscure what we really want to know.
Note that the policy addressed is the indefinite deferral of MSM (men who have sex with men) from donations, but what was expressed is ALL infectious diseases (ID's), effectively camouflaging HIV numbers among such widespread, curable diseases as Hepatitis B.
I'm going to contact the organization and request information on the specific markers for each ID.

It's actually the politically incorrect, proper, scientific way to present this. A man who has exclusive, even strong sexual attraction toward those of the same sex but who, for whatever reason, abstains from any sexual conduct is NOT an MSM and is not a risk to the blood supply due to that reason. This is significant.
Someone who had been incarcerated and, through no free choice of his own, was sodomized by another man in that environment IS an MSM, even if he has NO sexual attraction for other men.
This completely takes the feelings-based fluff of the left out of the equation, as it should be.

I tried to deduce that from the article, but came out with the same question.
Apparently, there's a "deferral list" in the blood donation community which basically tells blood collectors to immediately turn away presenting donors based on past tests, questionnaire answer, and such. I'm guessing that these MSM's are removed from this list and must now "requalify" according to the new standard of a year of abstinence from homo "sex."

I do not know...I had a friend who "acquired" HEP C during heart surgery when she lived in Arkansas (I think Clinton was selling prisoner blood then)... and have always hated the lessening of requirements for giving blood. Hope someone else chimes in here...
The 1-year deferral for “gay” sex is, not surprisingly, not good enough for the activist fags. They want absolute comparability to other people, those who pose very little to NO risk to the blood supply.
Homo-sex is a MAJOR vector for the transmission of HIV. Infections are not detectable during a window of between two weeks to several months, the occult infection period.
Homos want to be able to donate during this occult infection period.
I read with interest your recent article, "Infectious Disease Rates Higher Among MSM Blood Donors Compared with Overall Blood Donor Population," and was instantly struck by the fact that although you mention HIV as the prime influencer in the deferral policy for MSM, you fail to indicate the specific rates of HIV markers in the statistics you present, instead camouflaging that marker in a single pot of a variety of infections diseases as a whole.Is the data really so damning that you cannot publish it in full? Or is the data set not available to you? If it is available, would you please share it with me?

I've suggested more than once that rump rangers be allowed to donate, but that the blood would be designated as ONLY for other rump rangers. Maybe I should have added politicians.
