Our family has Indian ancestry that has been traced back to some of the leaders on The Trail of Tears. My younger brother is the spitting image of Geronimo and a younger sister looks the part also with dark complexion and jet black hair. I have never had a thought of trying to game the system and try and gain some advantage from it.
Most families with one side that has true American Indian heritage does not go around begging for quota jobs or special consideration. Our West Point recruiter in Hampton, VA had a full blooded Cherokee wife. He was our neighbor and his wife was a real friend of my mother’s. I regret I did not do better to get the appointment, but; I always saw the Colonel before and after Vietnam. He was a fine man.
