Washington Examiner ^ | October 26, 2018 | Joe Williams

The Detroit-based company's proposal, modeled after a California program the Trump administration is seeking to undermine, would mandate that manufacturers garner an escalating percentage of total vehicle sales from automobiles powered by electricity or hydrogen fuel cells.

I guess we can charge our batteries off windmills and solar panels. If I had any thought to buying a GM product again, not anymore.

How about a mandate on the battery pollution coming from electric vehicles?

General Motors proposed nationwide mandate for electric vehicles

So Government Motors is abandoning all pretense of being a commercial company responding to market forces? What a surprise!

This “mandate” is another bailout in disguise.

Considering that they build crap, I am very worried. The free market should dictate not some major company looking for an advantage over its competitors that is mandated by the feds. No thank you!

From the article:He added, "while, of course, allowing us and the gvt to ram this down the consumers' throat."

Tell ya what Mark, you can have your 'Program' if the gvt totally destructs the CAFE program. How 'bout that, program for program.

2 things:

1. Where is all this government mandated amperage supposed to come from?
2. Government mandated engineering and single source supply has ALWAYS been a success?

Someone in a boardroom is frantic about cocktail party virtue signaling.

Just as soon as you come up with a safe, practical, affordable battery.

Never happen. The missing link, the holy grail, perpetual motion, the perfect church, etc.

So, Government Motors wants gov mandates to make them compete in the electric car market? Will tax money be required to help them ‘compete’?

Recall that we bailed them out under Obama to save them, giving them $11,300,000,000 of our tax money.

BS! FGM!

i think GM feels they are in a box. Kalifornica is requiring electric cars that few want, and the economics of production make them expensive and their is likely little to no profit. So, I believe GM wants the Fed to require them also, which is to help their economy of scale and R&D cost recovery.

Of course, they are still uneconomic, and few want them, which is why a law is needed to force us serfs to buy that which we don’t want, but our betters know is good for us.

Until there is a good on-board way to generate electrical power, the “electric” car shall remain a pipe dream. Battery technology is just not good enough, ant it may never be, short of inventing something like perpetual motion.

Now if we could put a Mr. Fusion energy generator the size of a coffee-maker in a car, we would have more than enough power to run whatever size electric motor was deemed sufficient for the job.

Some version of a carbon-based fuel burning primary power plant will be with us for decades to come, if not well into the 22nd Century.

Taking a page out of Henry Ford’s book, you can have any color car, as long as it is black.
