THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
HARRY WARREN
THE SINGING MARINE: YOU CANT RUN AWAY FROM LOVE TONIGHT
Imagine the rivalry between Jack Warner at his studio and Pando Berman at RKO. Bermans musicals starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers rang the cash register almost every time, while Jacks musical division was pumping out one bomb after another. This 1937 movie is pretty much forgotten today but for one song. This is what is sounded like in the film. Note that Dicks tenor singing style is somewhere between opera and crooning.
