For all the media fixation on the "lies" President Trump tells, sometimes he has an uncanny knack of telling the unvarnished truth.
So it was on Friday night when Trump told those gathered at a West Virginia rally: "Sometimes its not as exciting to talk about the economy because we have a lot of other things to talk about."
That unscripted line left some Republican strategists nodding in agreement and wondering about what might have been. Republicans are bracing for the loss of the House of Representatives with operatives citing the lack of a coherent economic message and unnecessary distractions as decisive factors.

Ooh boy - Republican strategists!
They’ve really been behind Trump all the way, haven’t they?
Prayers for November 6th. That GOD will hear our cries for help to bring our nation further towards the path of righteousness. We declare the victory. In Jesus’ mighty name.
The blue wave crap is back. Republican strategists ignored the economy in messaging, now they realize they’re idiots.
Nonsense! The GOP will take a clean sweep Victory lap in the Midterms. Trump’s finest hour is yet to beheld by every, legal, American citizen.
if they have in fact blown it then its because once again their agenda has Trumped the people.
Instead of coming together and backing this President who’s responsible for this incredible economy and a conservative agenda, many of them stood true to being the cowards we know them to be and walked on eggshells, spinelessly refusing to wholeheartedly back President Trump...
GOP institutional impotence is a background matrix that has existed my whole life. I’d love to see Trump do spring cleaning after the mid-term, no matter the results.
“left some Republican strategists “
And tell me how many of them have the title “former chief *something* for the McCain and-or Romney campaign”?
Yes, they got played by the Dems. The thing is that there are a whole lot of people doing better and a whole lot of students out there actually looking forward to the job market rather than dreading it.
We are told that rhetoric is everything in political campaigns, but I think that isn’t true. When there is no discernable rhetoric the Dems blame “dog whistle” rhetoric, and there is no doubt that they will do that this time too, especially if the GOP manages somehow to hang onto the House. The thing is, though, that facts are facts. More money in your pocket, better prospects, less crime. Are these dog whistles or simply results? Well, we will see if the results get results.
Reason would suggest you are right. I am worried about Uniparty fun and games with the results.
I would not give a fig for the opinions of Luntz or Norquist. Conventional wisdom would have given us President Hillary Clinton and a Democrat House and Senate.
Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce Republicans, only Thursday did they begin running ads about the caravan & illegals here in PA. I’m afraid it’s too late.
It's a two-for....got 'em both covered.
Part time of the problem is that its hard to keep Trump on message.
Another reminder: The Washington Examiner is globalist neocon Never Trumper extraordinaire Bill Kristol’s son-in-law’s rag.
You mean the establishment guys who couldnt see 2016 coming, are worried about 2018.
Trump has talked about the economy on the stump! You mean he cant talk about anything else, too?
These people are phenomenally stupid. I guess they dont attend Trump rallies.
If theres anything the President left out, please let me know. I havent heard it.
BTW, Whats the Democrat message?
That’s our job, we have to clean the House and the Senate.
We have to stop electing Bush League Republicans like Graham, Rubio, Alexander, etc. who vote for amnesty and against enforcement.
