~ Hall of Heroes ~
Charles F. Carey, Jr. Info from here. |
|
Charles F. Carey, Jr. (died January 9, 1945) was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decorationthe Medal of Honor for his actions in World War II. Carey joined the Army from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and by January 8, 1945 was serving as a technical sergeant in the 397th Infantry Regiment 100th Infantry Division. During a German attack on that day and the following day, in Rimling, France, he organized and led a series of patrols against the enemy forces. With his patrols, he rescued American soldiers who had been attacked or surrounded, captured a house and sixteen prisoners, and disabled an enemy tank. He was killed by a sniper later in the day on January 9. For these actions, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor six months later in July 1945.
Carey was buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery in Neupré, Belgium. |
Technical Sergeant Carey's official Medal of Honor citation reads: He was in command of an antitank platoon when about 200 enemy infantrymen and 12 tanks attacked his battalion, overrunning part of its position. After losing his guns, T/Sgt. Carey, acting entirely on his own initiative, organized a patrol and rescued 2 of his squads from a threatened sector, evacuating those who had been wounded. He organized a second patrol and advanced against an enemy-held house from which vicious fire issued, preventing the free movement of our troops. Covered by fire from his patrol, he approached the house, killed 2 snipers with his rifle, and threw a grenade in the door. He entered alone and a few minutes later emerged with 16 prisoners. Acting on information he furnished, the American forces were able to capture an additional 41 Germans in adjacent houses. He assembled another patrol, and, under covering fire, moved to within a few yards of an enemy tank and damaged it with a rocket. As the crew attempted to leave their burning vehicle, he calmly shot them with his rifle, killing 3 and wounding a fourth. Early in the morning of January 9, German infantry moved into the western part of the town and encircled a house in which T/Sgt. Carey had previously posted a squad. Four of the group escaped to the attic. By maneuvering an old staircase against the building, T/Sgt. Carey was able to rescue these men. Later that day, when attempting to reach an outpost, he was struck down by sniper fire. The fearless and aggressive leadership of T/Sgt. Carey, his courage in the face of heavy fire from superior enemy forces, provided an inspiring example for his comrades and materially helped his battalion to withstand the German onslaught.

Well I changed my clocks so I will be messed up for a couple weeks. It snowed and the wind is blowing. I need to learn to hibernate like a Bear.

Good job...you remembered. I left two hoping they would change themselves, but no dice.
Wind and snow, mountainlion...that is good hibernation weather. A warm fire, a fuzzy blanket...sounds good to me.

Wisdoms Source
November 5, 2018
Give your servant a discerning heart.
1 Kings 3:9
A man filed a lawsuit against a woman, claiming she had his dog. In court, the woman said her dog couldnt be his and told the judge where she had purchased it. The real owners identity was revealed when the judge released the animal in the courtroom. Tail wagging, it immediately ran to the man!
Solomon, a judge in ancient Israel needed to settle a somewhat similar issue. Two women each claimed to be the mother of the same baby boy. After considering both arguments, he requested a sword to divide the infant in half. The real mother begged Solomon to give the baby to the other woman, choosing to save her sons life even if she could not have him (1 Kings 3:26). Solomon gave the baby to her.
Wisdom is necessary as we decide whats fair and moral, right and wrong. If we truly value wisdom, we can ask God for a discerning heart, like Solomon did (v. 9). God may answer our request by helping us balance our needs and desires with the interests of others. He may also help us weigh short-term benefits against long-term (sometimes eternal) gains so we can honor Him in how we live.
Our God is not only a perfectly wise judge, but He is also a personal counselor who is willing to give us godly wisdom in great amounts (James 1:5).
I worship You, God, as the true source of wisdom. Please show me how to make choices that bring honor to Your name.
Need wisdom? Seek it from the Source who alone can provide itGod.

Hi Everybody!
((((HUGS))))
Took Blue on the long, cold ride to Bro’s Garage. Also am notifying my mechanic that she’s bleeding oil. 26-year-old gaskets, I’ll wager.
It was rather a brisk 27 miles. But real pretty.

Good evening, Mooch...our military heroes deserve to have their stories told and retold. We must remember them.
Any snow yet? We’ve had a little, with more expected later in the week. Right now it’s just cold...mid teens at night.

Howdy, Kathy.
Were you able to get as much paperwork done today as you’d set out to? Pretty nippy up there so it was a good day to stay inside.
