Earth's protective ozone layer is finally healing from damage caused by aerosol sprays and coolants, a new United Nations report said.
The ozone layer had been thinning since the late 1970s. Scientist raised the alarm and ozone-depleting chemicals were phased out worldwide.
As a result, the upper ozone layer above the Northern Hemisphere should be completely repaired in the 2030s and the gaping Antarctic ozone hole should disappear in the 2060s, according to a scientific assessment released Monday at a conference in Quito, Ecuador. The Southern Hemisphere lags a bit and its ozone layer should be healed by mid-century.
"It's really good news," said report co-chairman Paul Newman, chief Earth scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. "If ozone-depleting substances had continued to increase, we would have seen huge effects. We stopped that."
"I don't think we can do a victory lap until 2060," Newman said. "That will be for our grandchildren to do."
But it's not a complete success yet, said University of Colorado's Brian Toon, who wasn't part of the report.
"We are only at a point where recovery may have started," Toon said, pointing to some ozone measurements that haven't increased yet.

So the old Ozone Hole is closing up but global weather is becoming more extreme and damaging. Maybe time to get the sprays out and open that hole a little more to tame the weather.
Its a self healing process.
If there is less ozone in a region, then more radiation enters the atmosphere, strikes the water, and creates more ozone.
It is amazing to me how libs never ask “what if i am wrong?”. If they were right the hole should be bigger than ever.
The thing is that the left is not as much about ‘science’ as they think they are... (just as they really don’t care about minorities, gays, poor or anything else they claim) They only REALLY want POWER, and the truth be damned, manipulate the lies to get their agenda, and who cares about the people...

Earth’s Ozone Layer was never in trouble, from halogenated hydrocarbons or even CO2.
The reason? Most fluorocarbon or chlorocarbon compounds are MUCH heavier than the primary constituents of the atmosphere (oxygen and nitrogen), and do not rise to stratospheric heights, where the ozone layer exists. Same goes for CO2.
Ozone is created when the high-altitude molecules of oxygen (normally O2) are bombarded with UV radiation, causing a fracture of the oxygen molecule into two mono-atomic oxygen atoms, which are INFINITELY more active than diatomic oxygen molecules. These highly active atoms immediately bond with an unfractured oxygen molecule, forming the ozone molecule, O3, which goes to make up the ozone layer on an ever-renewing basis in the upper atmosphere.
Of course, this is a highly reversible reaction, two O3 molecules reverting to three O2 molecules, but in the process, UV radiation has been absorbed and deflected from reaching the earth’s surface. The energy from the UV radiation is converted into heat, which is radiated off from the upper atmosphere as that part of the atmosphere turns away from the sun, with the fall of night.

Translation: We can’t get the U.S. to play along with our scam, so we gotta end the scam.
Since Chlorine is heavier than air along with all of its molecular compounds, how did it manage to get to upper atmosphere Ozone Layer to destroy it?
Funny how if you repeat something often enough, it becomes a life of its own.

This has been known for YEARS... where are they finding these headlines?
There was actually a realistic solution proposed for filling the ozone hole. But you need to know about the problem first.
Ozone exists over a very broad, 3D layer in the atmosphere, but even at its densest, there is very little of it in a cubic meter of atmosphere. But that is not the problem, which is the “hole”, over the Arctic, where there is almost none at all.
So why not “patch the hole” with replacement ozone?
Use an airship to cruise around the interior of the hole, spraying ozone about. Sure it will take thousands of tons of frozen ozone, but eventually the hole will begin to contract.
How dare you try to use real science to commit heresy.
When I had to get a refrigerant license in 1995, the first paragraph of the Government Booklet stated:
We know there is NO conclusive evidence that cfc’s are destroying the ozone layer, but we feel the need is too great to take a chance....
I was grandfathered in, they sent me the test and answers to fill out and mail in.
