The Hungarians put liquid soap on the streets and the tanks skidded around but it did them no good in the end. I watched a movie, supposed to be based on a true story, of the Russians shooting the father in front of his wife and children in a restaurant. The Russians could be and still are capable of being extremely brutal.

Some boys came here and went to Catholic schools. My mom told me they didn't behave very well and lit their cigarettes and smoked in school. lol.

I'll take a look at your video. Saw some beautiful pictures of Christmas in Budapest, in a now generation. All lit up, a market, awesome.

They get a measure of limited freedom after 1956. Kadar wasn’t seeking revenge and he even introduced a market economy that raised living standards.

I’m sure he would have liked to do more but Soviet paranoia about 1956 precluded it.
