Sounds about right but the differences go much further. For one thing Progressives are socialists/communists at heart. The exact opposite is truth for conservatives.

They say America had very similar divisions in the 60’s. I don’t see it that way. For one thing in the 60’s the young military aged people were protesting the war in Vietnam. Today the left is protesting our freedoms and rights.

Conservatism vs. Progressivism

All true but it doesn't explain why they have these different expectations from government.

At the root of the Progressive agenda is a mistaken belief that modern man is improved. In fact he is so improved he can be trusted with more legislative powers than the founders’ provided.

The founders’ limited government legislative powers because they knew than man tends to abuse power. The Progressive Movement has the notion that since man has improved since our founders time we can trust the elected with legislative powers not allowed by the Constitution.

The Progressive Movement focuses on the adage; when a candidate advocates robbing Peter to Pay Paul he will very likely gain Paul’s support and vote. In this fashion they gain control over both Peter and Paul.
