I'm concerned about this because, while I'm not familiar with the vagaries of New Jersey voting, it seems to me that the fact a voter has received an unsolicited mail-in ballot should not disqualify him to vote in person. It appears to me that this is some sort of scam designed to turn away voters of certain [ahem!] political persuasions.
I would be interested in knowing whether other New Jersey voters have undergone a similar experience.
And so it begins.
Thank you for the heads up. I’m about to vote in a few minutes now and I also received an unsolicited mail-in ballot. Last time, when they tried to list me as a Dem, I started yelling. They try to disenfranchise me today, I’ll be strangling people.
Your co-worker (and family) would have been wise to bring the mail-in ballots with them to the pole. At least that would have shown they had not already voted. Followed up with a call to the supervisor of elections while still at the polling place.....at least that’s what I would have done.
The children of this world are more clever than the children of light.
This ploy is worthy of Illinois.

Voted this morning with no issues. I also received a mail in ballot but it wasn’t mandatory or “activated” for lack of a better word.
Plus, when you vote in person, there is nothing anywhere that anyone would be able to look at to ID you as a Dem or a Rep so I’m not really buying this.
Plus, even if that were the case, once behind the curtain, you can do whatever you want.
I would still report it, but this sounds like something that a polling place worker was misinformed on.
There were voting problems in the People’s Socialist Kakistocracy of Austin. One polling place was more than a half-hour late in opening because the public library didn’t have power in the room used for voting,. Then there was problems with some of the equipment and the polling officials had to wait on technicians to come in a fix the problem, which then reoccurred and the techs had to come back. One wonders how many (Republican) votes conveniently got vaporized in that FUBAR.
But it did make it easy to vote against the current County Election Commissioner. ;-)
No problems in NJ-3. I am surrounded by Blue. Its raining, Wife and I were voter number 67 and 68 at 8:30am. That is lighter turnout than normal, so far.
Where I worked elections in Houston the procedure for mail in ballots not used is to officially cancel them and then allow voter to vote
Sounds like voter suppression.
No problem voting in NJ-11 about half an hour ago...
To HE11 with early/mail in/online voting. Show up to the polling place on the day of the election, or if schedule requires it (Military, travel outside polling jurisdiction, etc.)send in an absentee ballot. One or the other. THIS kind of chicanery is worthy of joisey, the chitown machine, Louisiana, or kalinorfia to name a few.....

Interesting and definitely needs to be investigated thoroughly.
I checked the other day on Status of My Mothers Voter Registration as She passed away August of 2017. She was listed as off the Voter Rolls.
I EVed and they have Me listed as Valid Return/in Person. I Voted curbside and not 10 away from the Truck were 5 or 6 commiedemonratscumbags trying to hand out propaganda sheets. I dont think that is legal for them to be that close. Im going to Search right now for the Distance Law.
....just voted here in Mt Olive...
Nothing like that here, smiles all around.

Interesting. WOW. In Nebraska, we have always had to request a mail-in ballot, and it was made clear that we could not go vote at a polling place, once the ballot was sent to us.
I believe that for this round, we have now signed up to always receive (so, they will be unsolicited in the future) mail-in ballots.
It looks like an issue that may need clarification for future elections here.
Do you know what was the basis of the mail-in ballots having been sent out “unsolicited”?
No problem voting.
ML/NJ
No problems at District 1. Even wore my bright red Phillies sweatshirt.
It is an application for a mail-in ballot.
I was mailed an application as well from the NJ Republican State Committee, but in order to apply, The application must be filled out, stating exactly which election you want to apply for (general, primary, municipal, etc), and then it must be sent to the county clerk's office no later than Oct. 30th or delivered in person to the County Clerk by 3 pm on the day before the election.
It states on the application: "Once you apply for a Mail-In Ballot, you will not be permitted to vote by machine at your polling place in the same election".
I never applied, and I never received an actual mail-in ballot (and yes I'm bringing the application with me to vote). If they tell me I cannot vote, there is going to be hell.
