Ocasio-Cortez calls question about how to pay for Medicare for all ‘puzzling’

New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had a quick answer when asked how Americans would pay for the 'Medicare for all' plan she and other socialist-leaning Democrats favor: "Just pay for it." In an interview with Jorge Ramos last week, Ocasio-Cortez was asked how she would pay for the multi-billion dollar health care plan promoted by liberal lawmakers like Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif. Ramos noted critics say the the program would be "more expensive" than the current system, to which she answered that people would "just pay for it." “People often say, like, how are you going to pay for it and I find the question so puzzling because ‘How do you pay for something that’s more affordable? How do you pay for cheaper rent?’ You just pay for it,” she said. “We’re paying more now.” According to recent studies, the program, first introduced by Sanders over the summer, would increase government health spending by $32.6 trillion over 10 years.

Just pay for it with what? Oh, yeah, other people's money.

Wrong question - It is not HOW it will be paid. The right question is WHO will pay.

Did Ramos push the question further, or just accept her at her word?

Actually, no it doesn't. Think of Krugman.

Why do I think she got a full free ride at Boston University?

And "free" was all that she learned?

She only has to be smarter than the people who vote in her district.

God help us that sort of sophistry actually clicks with the low-information voter.

Like the Lesbian actress in New York. “We’re the world’s wealthiest country, we’ll figure it out.”

Supposedly, Cortez has an economics degree.

These days such a degree probably carries about as much weight as so many other prizes and awards that get passed out so frequently.

A few times I have run across people who seem normal but have no idea how anything works. It’s a breathtaking realization when it suddenly occurs to you that the person you thought was normal is so clueless you have to wonder how they are getting along in the world at all.

As an example, I was talking to an enthusiastic wannabe thirty-something author working on a manuscript. He had a uniformed beat cop checking a top secret US government database. When I tried to explain that beat cops didn’t have access to US government secrets he looked confused, then laughed and said, “Well, nobody is going to know that.”

After listening several times to Ocassio-Cortez, I have come to the conclusion she has no idea how anything works. Further, she doesn’t know she has no idea how anything works. The good part, should she get elected to office, is she will be a full time embarrassment to the Democrats in power. They will not be able to shut her up. On the bad side, stupidity is dangerous. The deciding vote on the unrealistic CAFE was a woman who had noticed that occasionally, the instantaneous fuel mileage on her car was as high as 38 mpg. She said she thought, “Well, we’re almost there. Why not go for the full Monty?”

This clown is what passes for an “Economics” major at a prominent private university (Boston University). God help us.

America’s left used to at least talk about balancing the books.

The typical response to the cost of their schemes, was they would cut the military in half, or some such stuff.

Has Ocasio-Cortez even mentioned that?

Or have massive debt, central banking, fiat money, and manipulated Zero interest rates convinced literally everyone that everything can be a free lunch?

Did Ramos push the question further, or just accept her at her word?

Not sure about this time, but when Hillary and Tipper Gore guested on a local talk show here in Atlanta in the 90's the host repeatedly asked them how much their version of expanded health care was going to cost the taxpayers.

Their tag team, non-responsive tapdancing was both insulting and disgusting, and memorable.

This time Ocasio-Cortez supporters, at least, got an answer that made sense to them.

Somebody posted on an earlier thread that it was "Economic History".

So, like "Art History" doesn't require any artistic talent, "Economic History" probably doesn't require any math skills.

She probably also thinks that as long as there are checks in her checkbook there is money in the bank.
