HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- After a hard-fought race, Democratic candidate Lizzie Fletcher sent nine-time Republican incumbent Rep. John Culberson into retirement on Tuesday night.
Fletcher hoped to turn Texas' Congressional District 7 blue for the first time in 18 years with a message on affordable health care.
The native Houstonian and law firm partner is the co-founder of a Planned Parenthood young leaders' group, and also sits on the board of multiple nonprofits.
She said before Tuesday's vote that she has fought hard for Houstonians, both Democrats and Republicans, in her work.
Fletcher raised more than $5 million, which doubled the amount Culberson raised. Much of the money was spent on communicating her message to the community.

It's West Houston, the Energy Corridor.
Culberson skipped the Houston Trump rally...
What is it with all these idiots believing these Democrats can make health care, or anything else, affordable? The head of the DNC said their main goal is to institute 100% gov-run health care. It’s a right, don’t you know. How can people be so stupid??? When has government ever made any service better? I am so aggravated right now.
My wife said “Now Culberson and Mattress Mac can go have a beer.”
Sessions 32 TX lost as well?
Houston and Harris County is solid rat now. What a shame.
There were some pretty devastating ads against Sessions here.
Its shocking that the very people that destroyed medical care as we knew it are winning on the issue. Of course our side completely botched their attempt to undo it, so I do not have much sympathy. Even their crappy repeal bill didnt repeal it.
Very true. I don’t get how people think government can run health care. Government can’t manage a 2-car funeral.
Sessions lost too.
Was chairman of the House Rules Committee.
Oy veh.
Planned Parenthood young leaders’ group is so ironic. They should be thankful that they are alive and they will choose who to kill. .
You would be amazed how many people in the "oil patch" vote for tree huggers who actively try to kill their jobs ...
Those millions spent by the anti American leftist billionaires bought this Rat majority. Previously Republicans could attempt to counter the leftist media spin with ads. Now that capability has been countered by the massive spending Soros, Steyer, Bloomburg and their ilk provide.
Gop house losses predicted all year were accurate. But many did not want to accept their possible accuracy.
Fletcher had a non-stop negative ads campaign going and Culberson seemed to be MIA.
