Few Cabinet members have had as contentious a relationship with the presidents they serve as did Jeff Sessions, attorney general until approximately 13 hours after the last polls closed in the 2018 midterm elections. Sessions endured President Trump’s frequent critiques on Twitter and was the target of Trump’s frustration both in interviews and in West Wing conversations that were later reported by the media.

The comments at the WashPo are hysterical. They're talking about how there'll be "blood in the streets" over this soon.

I don't know that they'll be able to synchronize their menstrual cycles to coordinate that on a large scale.

The Democrats didn’t run on impeaching Trump. They never mentioned it.

As a practical matter, it will go nowhere unless they want to be out of office in two years.

1. Sessions should have told Trump in advance he would have to recuse himself I’m issues involving Clinton.

2. He never should have deferred to Rosenstein to handle an investigation into Trump.

3. This POS in exile should have resigned long ago.

Either the Dems are blackmailing him OR he is a plant and active collaborator.

And they will almost certainly do it. Or incur the wrath of their moonbat base and lunatic lefty funders for not doing it. Trump is hoisting them on that petard.

If they try that, they’ll make Trump look good.

Look at what happened to Red State Senators who voted against Kavanaugh.

Four of them lost their re-election bids last night.

Will Geist on MSNBC said that Trump would actually LOVE to be impeached, because it would be “the Kavanaugh hearings x1000”.

And PDJT is daring them to do it by firing Sessions. This is beautiful. He took two years to jump start the roaring economy , solidified the senate and his party, and will now spend the next two years draining the swamp, getting trade deals, and blaming the crazy democrats for gridlock and domestic resistance to his economic success and attempt to secure the border. He didn’t wait 15 minutes to do a 180 and totally out flank the democrat machine. He will now be attacking them. They got a lot to hide.

Appointing a new attorney general is not trivial, since that person would need Senate confirmation to start work.

I believe that Congress in in recess because of the elections. If so, then Trump could recess appoint a new attorney general without Senate confirmation. In any case, lacking the recusal of Sessions and thus the need for a special counsel, the new or acting AG could just transfer Mueller's entire case to regular career prosecutors and be done with it.

The Senate is NOT in official recess. They are conducting pro forma sessions.

What a shame! Still, Trump can still move some else who has already been confirmed by the Senate to the AG position.

Trump said this is the best possible outcome. Rhetoric aside, it makes sense at least two ways:
- As Scott Adams noted, it’s like the dog chasing a car: makes a lot of nods and effort, but then is faced with “I caught it - now what?”
- Consider “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”: by just barely getting the House, they’ll have to work closely with Trump to get anything done, and can’t play obstructionist since they’re in control(ish).

Remember: Trump is a pragmatist, not an idealist. From his perspective, this couldn’t get better.

They're basically in a trap, of their own doing now. Falls under the be-careful-what-you-wish-for-you-just-might-get-it rule. And they'll be dealing with a guy who is a master at taking lemons and making lemonade out of them.
