Did a Twitter User Scam MAGA Fans Out of Thousands of Dollars?
New York Magazine ^ | November 5, 2018 | Brian Feldman

There are few things the MAGA crowd loves more than a black Republican. The meteoric rise of Candace Owens and the embrace of Kanye West, despite his Hollywood A-list status, are symptomatic of a group desperate to prove it isn’t racist.

Over the past few months, the conservative sections of social media have become fixated on the #WalkAway campaign, urging Democrats and minorities to take off their blinders and join the Republican party. Late last month, it seemed that the Republican party had added a black college student named Quran to its ranks.

She tweeted, “I will not hide any longer,, the left has made us feel as if us black republicans should hide!! but not anymore!! #BlacksForTrump #WalkAway #maga” and attached a photo of herself in a red bucket hat emblazoned with the famous “Make America Great Again” slogan.

After considering a number of pithy comments I decided to leave that up to others. I can only pity this foolish child and wish her well in life on the demokkkrat plantation she ends up on.

According to a Zero Hedge article (which is "not welcome" on FR she scammed Trump supporters out of $150,000:

It never ceases to amaze me that people will do just that. More proof that P. T. Barnum was right.

I’m not sure about that - what did she promise in return for the money?

Who are the victims of her crime?

Have they come forward and filed complaints against her?

It's allowed in their culture and, of course, we must respect their culture since all cultures are equal. /s

She solicited money under false pretenses. She pretended to be a Trump supporter in order to defraud.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_pretenses

Under federal law, obtaining money or property through false pretenses as part of a scheme or artifice to defraud, and using means of interstate commerce such as a telephone, is illegal under title 18 USC section 1343; the crime is usually referred to as “Wire Fraud.”

The elements of false pretenses are: (1) a false representation (2) of a material past or existing fact (3) which the person making the representation knows is false (4) made for the purpose of causing (5) and which does cause (6) the victim to pass title (7) to his property [3] False pretenses is a statutory offense in most jurisdictions; subject matter covered by statute varies accordingly, and is not necessarily limited to tangible personal property - some statutes include intangible personal property and services. For example, the North Carolina false pretense statute applies to obtaining “any money, goods, property, services, choses in action, or any other thing of value ...”[4] Under common law, false pretense is defined as a representation of a present or past fact, which the thief knows to be false

Fraud can be prosecuted as a civil case or a criminal case.

“She pretended to be a Trump supporter in order to defraud.”

Therein lies the problem, proving she didn’t support Trump at some point. It’s difficult to prove what someone’s thoughts are about anything - if they changed their thoughts and like workings of the mind.

On this, she’ll have plenty of trouble, but I expect that’s about all. The people that turned over their money could sue in civil court, but it would cost them more to get their money back than it’s worth.

I expect the suckers best route is to go through GoFundMe or whatever online begging platform the person used and be a bit wiser in the future about such things.
