Promise not to kill anyone? After losing election, TX judge wholesale releases juvenile...

After losing his bench in a Democratic sweep, Harris County Juvenile Court Judge Glenn Devlin released nearly all of the youthful defendants that appeared in front him on Wednesday morning, simply asking the kids whether they planned to kill anyone before letting them go.

"He was releasing everybody," said public defender Steven Halpert, who watched the string of surprising releases. "Apparently he was saying that's what the voters wanted."

In court, prosecutors voiced their concerns about the seemingly indiscriminate release of those accused of everything from low-level misdemeanors to violent crimes.

He’s just giving the fine, upstanding folks what they voted for.....can’t say as I rightly don’t blame him. Elections have consequences.

Let’s see what kind of recitivism and crimes are commited.

I think every democrat judge in Tx up for the next election should get made to own this judge’s actions if this turns out badly.

This fits right in with the the latest dem philosophy that incarceration is a bad thing and the streets should be full of people who were formerly oppressed by the fascist judicial system that only just wanted to live and never meant anyone any harm

I am Sorry if I misread your comments.

“The longtime Republican jurist — whose seat was among 59 swept by Democrats in Tuesday’s election — is one of two juvenile court judges in Harris County whose track records favoring incarceration contributed heavily to doubling the number of kids Harris County sent to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department in recent years, even as those figures fell in the rest of the state.”

Basically he’s flipping off the voters as he leaves. I understand the feeling, anyway.

Or I didn’t read it, but even if this isn’t new wave dem anarchy, it’s still a risky/irresponsible thing to do and could bite him under certain circumstances. Someone needs to clean this mess up. When I was reading up on impeachment yesterday I saw that judges were more often the target

Have friends in sugar land. Texas is stock full of CA transplants who have brought their left leaning voting habits with them. But we all knew this would happen. No surprise.

Seems appropriate. Democrats don’t want law and order, so they got what they voted for.

agree. The judge should judeg by the law not election results. All those cases could be appealed (imo) by some one connected with victim or prosecution side.

What party are you in? There will always be people who vote for the Party of Lincoln who want More Liberty, not Less. Never Less.

Recidivism wouldn’t be an issue if this duly elected judge had done his job, instead of letting these ferals free.

Being petty (leftist behavior) because of election outcomes doesn’t help anyone, especially when this judge was elected by the people to do his job every day he is in that seat. As a law-abiding Texan I’m disappointed, even if I understand where he was coming from losing his election to ignorant voters and probable fraud.
