The mayor of Moscow has decreed that a square near the headquarters of Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence service be named after Kim Philby, the Briton who was the most successful Soviet double agent of the Cold War period.

Mayor Sergei Sobyanin signed the order on Tuesday. The move comes amid tensions between Russia and Britain over this year’s nerve agent poisoning of Russian former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the English city of Salisbury. …

AP says “most successful” instead of “most notorious”. Talk about deliberate Soviet revanchism.

I am semi-relieved the world is finally waking up to the reality of the Putin state and its Bolshevik foundations. Some of the most deceived have been so called conservatives. Please pray for modern Russia and its future. It is no longer the Soviet Union, but it is also not divorced from its dark legacy either. The ghosts remain. And far too many young Russians are left in the dark about the unpleasant elements of its history, while elderly people keep their mouths shut from painful memories of repressions.

So much for the “new” Russia :)

People here a few years ago were saying “God bless putin”

I’m glad he fought ISIS until Trump got in office

And for whatever real reasons he had for giving the church there a boost, at least he supported it.

But he’s not a friend and he’s not a good guy.

Do business with him, respect him, but never trust him.

Yes, that’s taken from “The Godfather II” :)

More like he remade the church there in his image.

How about re-naming Red Square to be Mathias Rust Square.

I’ll second that.

Wikipedia lists his achievement as an “illegal landing”. No bias there, of course.

Just looking up the flight log in my flight planner:

That was a 514 nm flight, or abour 4 hours in a C172. Looks like a nice scenic flight!

No. It's British Traitor Kim Philby. "Double Agent" is the enemy's term.

Of course, what can we expect from the treasonous press?!

Rust took 6 hours 19 minutes to get to Moscow. There’s speculation that he landed a couple of hours away and changed his clothes.

IIRC there were several Brit spies for the Soviet Union around the same time with a homo thread among them.

And the farce of state religion on display:

Cuba's Raul Castro decorating Patriarch Kirill, leader of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church. And below is Russian Orthodox clergy with North Korean dignitaries to celebrate 70 years of friendly Russia-NK relations.

Cool. Just read that he had installed extra tanks. 38 gallons useable for the stock 172 only lasts a fraction of that 6:19

Philby was part of the Cambridge Five ring of British traitors. There were likely more than five in this ring.

Oxford and Cambridge were very fertile recruiting grounds for such traitors by the Soviet Union. Still is for Russia. Though now the incentive is money rather than ideology. A cursory look at Bill Clinton’s activities at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar (which he did not complete) show a classic recruiting pattern for a Soviet mole.

The Soviet Union used our Ivy League schools in the same fashion. Russia still does.

As far as a homosexuality, there is a dark thread of that running through the British “upper classes”, their “public schools”, and the traitors recruited from such. It is a key intelligence community indicator of likely treasonous activity.

Always remember; traitors sell secrets, spies buy them. Such is the world of smoke, mirrors, and betrayal.
