Trump rebuffs recusal demands for Acting AG Whitaker, swipes at Conway’s husband
Fox News ^ | 9 Nov 18 | Judson Berger

President Trump on Friday shot down calls for his new Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker to recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation, arguing that his public comments on the probe are not out of the ordinary for a high-ranking official.

Numerous Democratic officials have called for Whitaker’s recusal after he was tapped to replace Jeff Sessions, who was forced to resign within hours of Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Eighteen state attorneys general signed a document Thursday calling on the new AG to recuse himself from the probe, citing in part his “hostility” to the investigation given his past criticism in the media.

But speaking to reporters before taking off for Paris, Trump brushed off those concerns. He argued that high-profile lawyers comment on cable about matters of public importance all the time and if that were disqualifying, “You'd have nobody left to choose.”

“All the time I’m watching many different people go on many different shows saying many different things. That doesn’t mean they’re unqualified,” Trump said.

He also said he doesn’t know Whitaker personally but asserted he “has a great reputation.”

While Sessions’ dismissal was widely expected – given Trump’s animus toward the Justice Department head over his 2017 recusal from the Russia investigation – the speed at which it happened after the midterms was not. Some of the criticism Trump has faced for his choice of replacement has been bipartisan – notably, from George Conway.

The husband of White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway co-wrote a New York Times op-ed with former DOJ attorney Neal Katyal claiming the installation of Whitaker at the helm of the DOJ is “unconstitutional” and “illegal” because he was not Senate-confirmed in his prior role as Sessions’ chief of staff, rendering any actions he takes “invalid.”

From the article: "Whitaker was originally Senate-confirmed as a U.S. attorney under the Bush administration over a decade ago."

Get them Trump! Whitaker is VERY qualified!

The President has named him as acting attorney general under the Vacancies Reform Act of 1998 (the relevant provisions are codified at Sections 3345 and 3346 of Title 5, U.S. Code). There has been some commentary suggesting that because Whitaker was in a job (chief of staff) that did not require Senate confirmation, he could not become the “acting officer” in a position (AG) that calls for Senate confirmation. Not so. The Vacancies Act enables the president to name an acting officer, who may serve as such for 210 days, as long as the person named has been working at the agency or department for at least 90 days in a fairly high-ranking position. Whitaker qualifies.

DJT will either get rid of Kelly Ann Conway, or she will get rid and dump that worthless pile of **** she married...

Sadly four kids are involved...
Possible she will step down...
what ever...life will go on for the DJT ADMINISTRATION.

I like Kellyanne quite a lot, but I think it’s time for her to go. Her husband is a liability and he’s using her to do damage to the president. She should resign or be fired.

Great thread about Whitaker here:

1. There is a new Attorney General in town, and his name is Matthew Whitaker! We could speculate as to the many reasons why Sessions “resigned” etc, but that isn’t what this thread is going to be about. This thread is going to be about why this choice is no accident.

I think Kellyanne needs to divorce her husband already. It’s one thing to mouth off on Twitter, but taking out editorials criticizing your wife’s boss is a betrayal by any definition. He’s literally trying to sabotage her career.

Eat that, the senior judicial analyst for Fox.

Her husband is a scumbag. I think she should dump him and continue working to save the republic.

Many of us are tired of Kellyanne’s spouse. He is shameful and I agree she needs to go and take that fat pig hubby with her.

The best part is at the end of the article.
A reporter questions Mr. Trump about comments of George Conway. The president responds “You mean Mister Kellyanne Conway? He just wants attention!”

Ha! Shots fired. Everyone knows the president is correct on this. George Conway looks insecure, desperate and disloyal slamming his wife’s boss over and over.

The sad part about it is, I would not be surprised one day to read that George Conway did something terrible to harm both himself and Kellyanne. This is a man with deep, festering problems. The kids have to be aware of his anxiety. Most children watch their parents very closely.

Yep, he should be coming home to find his belongings sitting on the front lawn and the doors padlocked.

It’s time to “retire” Kellyanne.
Not that it will stop her husband fro running his mouth.
But for a trust issue regarding Kellyanne.
She could be a leaker.
Who can trust a WH staffer who has a spouse
so vocal in negative comments about Trump.
If she cannot get her husband to be respectful of
her and her job, she should resign or divorce him.
One or the other.

Not for nothing, but what does it say about a marriage when your husband is actively and publicly trying to get you fired from a job you love? I saw a couple of leftist families take out public endorsements of their family member’s congressional opponent this past cycle. You can’t choose your family, but you can choose to leave a backstabbing dirtbag spouses.

If she stays loyal to Trump, he’ll stay loyal to her - the man has principles that count for something.

Out of loyalty to Trump she should resign. Damage is being done.

If you say so - but consider Trump isn’t a typical politician who will throw friends under the bus out of convenience...would you rather he act like the typical politician? It would worry me for him to go that route.
