A county official says reports of an active shooter at a school in North Carolina turned out to be malfunctioning water heater.

News reports quote Pender County emergency management director Tom Collins as saying that noise from the water heater was taken for the sound of gunfire at Topsail High School on Friday morning. The earlier report of shots fired provoked a massive response by law enforcement and caused the school district to reroute buses and put schools on lockdown.

Hey, it won't stop the antis from adding it to the list of daily mass shootings(is this 308 for the year now?). At the HS a block from us there were also no shots fired this week. Anyone else?

A joke they say about the City of Detroit (and probably from someone else, maybe Chicago?)

In Detroit if you’re at home and hear a bang outside you don’t rush to the window to see what’s going on-—you hit the floor fast.

What kind of malfunction causes a water heater to make noises that sound like gunshots? Is it about to explode?

We had an assault water heater in the old house. Always making noises.

Never called the cops though...

Water hammer caused by collapsing steam bubbles can sound like a gunshot or shots. You must be young, I grew up when the heat was steam and radiators always banged when the heat came on.

I woke up to steam radiators banging away in the morning every day in winter.

I had to replace a turncoat water heater that deliberately leaked and ruined 1oo square feet of kitchen floor.

Water hammer caused by collapsing steam bubbles can sound like a gunshot or shots.

Is that why my old water heater makes loud clunking noises after I take a shower?

It's probably 20 years old but I hesitate to replace it since there is no noticeable deterioration on the outside or leaks.......

Water hammer and boiling hot cavitation from years of mineral deposits.

Exploding air bubbles!! No injuries reported.

Its time for a new one. And dont let the plumber leave the old one. It weighs 3-5 times what it did when they put it in there.

All the magic is done on the inside as to retain its mystery. When and if it leaks it will not be a tiny drip.

Tankless? That’s the belt fed fully automatic street sweeper assault water heater. Civilians will be limited to a ten gallon, wood fueled water heater just like the large pots that were available when the Constitution was signed.
