These days, any time I see a "racially motivated" crime, my first thought is that it's a hoax.
If N hate crimes are reported, one can always assume that N-M of them are fake, where M=N.
Perhaps it is time to discuss the advantages of decriminalizing vocabulary words.

The Air Force Academy had an incident like this last year. Someone left a racial slur on a bulletin board. The Academy way overreacted. The Superintendent had the entire school, 4000 students, stand at attention while he delivered a “blistering speech” about tolerance. My first impression was “false flag”. I was right. The perp was black.
I also think it's past time for us to admit to ourselves that there is really very little actual racism in this country.
