Firefighters brace for return of Santa Ana winds...

Some 170,000 Los Angeles County residents remain under mandatory evacuation Saturday night, as the destructive Woolsey Fire torches coastline and hillsides, reducing houses to rubble, from the beaches to the Valley.

None of the mandatory evacuation orders issued for the Woolsey Fire since Friday have been lifted in LA County. The orders affect multiple communities, including the entire city of Malibu, which has been “hit very, very hard,” says City Councilmember Lou La Monte.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents in evacuation zones to resist the urge to return home. Even in areas where flames are no longer active, there are downed power lines, smoldering embers that could reignite, limited to no cell service, and poor air quality.

THIS IS SO HORRIBLE - prayers for everyone in the paths of these fires to be safe.

So sorry for those who will lose their homes...how will they rebuild in California - near the coast especially.

Again, this is just horrible.

This is also a reminder that we are the mercy of Mother Nature despite what the left wants us to think!

At least until they genetically modify trees so they don’t burn.

We can send a man to the moon but we can’t clear underbrush.

Yes - and this is a prime example of what happens when we try to modify what Mother Nature does...if they had let nature take its course, these fires would not be happening like this.

I notice in videos of the fire there are trees that are green while everything around it is burned like toast. Infact, I saw a video last night of a man who videotaped his dead neighbors that were found in their cars trapped in the fire’s path. Pretty graphic but what intrigue me is that some of the trees around the burned cars were still green.

That’s because The Pink Snotted Wrenostrik lives there. 2 nests inside the entire State have been found and it was determined by Free the Flappy Wings Group that even though there are 2 nests and only 1 breeding pair was seen 26 years ago it has become a very good possibility that the 2 nests are a Summer and a Winter home that The Pink Snotted Wrenostrik might actually use when the Seasons change.

Now You must go mow the yard with the SolarGrassMulcher.

Yes, in the wine country fires there were a lot of trees left standing, some unburned, some just singed. Trees are relatively fire proof, but houses and cars are not. So anywhere a house caught just a lick of flame it burned to the ground. The opposite was true for the trees.

Also the only lesson from all these deadly fires is to let fires burn because putting them out just means subsequent fires will be worse. They also need far more prescribed fire. The main reason they don't do that is CARB which prohibits burning when it is safe to do so, and only allows it when it is unsafe when nobody in their right mind would do it.

That is part of the problem. The main reason however is the absolutely insane CARB regulations that prohibit burning when it is safe, during low mixing weather. So landowners are prevented from doing the necessary controlled burns of hazardous brush. Yet another reason is watershed regulations that prohibit roads, brush clearing and other land disturbance.

About 3 miles away from me is part of the Woolsey fire.
I drive down Valley Circle Blvd M-F on the way back from work where the fires are and take the 101 freeway to work down Topanga Blvd. The whole route is shutdown from Valley Circle to Lindero exit which is where I make the exit to cross the freeway to get to work a few lights down Agoura road.

We were able to leave work early on Thursday afternoon. We had Friday off as the whole place was shutdown. At the time the fire was in Ventura north of the building where I work but it skipped over and was burning along Agoura road where I drive that parallels the 101 freeway that I take to get back home.

No danger where I am at as the brush fires always move down the hills towards Malibu.

The company email says to expect to be at work on Monday but nothing final yet. High winds in area too so I doubt anyone will be at work. I have Monday scheduled off anyhow. I would not want to be at work as the winds can shift and both the 101 and the 118 freeways which are the only way to the San Fernando valley where I live can be closed. See news here: https://abc7.com

Sigalert shows freeway traffic. See cameras. No traffic.
https://www.sigalert.com/?lat=34.19743&lon=-118.6827&z=0

Company email:
“We anticipate that the building will be open on Monday morning, but at this point it is impossible to predict. Please know that we are monitoring the situation very closely and will send you an update via email and text as soon as a decision has been made. Be alert for notification on Sunday evening.”

The smarter-than-thou county managers told everyone to clear 100 feet around their house. Of course Cal-Fire banned burning starting in June, so people would have to rent a chipper. That's good advice except it doesn't matter when the county (and Cal-Fire) didn't do anything to county lands.

Among Butte county's insane regulations is they don't allow more than 6,000 acres to burn on any given day. That's in a county of over a million acres. They now have 109,000 acres burned or burning. Pure genius.
