Victor Davis Hanson: Macron Wants ‘European Union Army,’ Can’t Make NATO Payments
Breitbart ^ | Robert Kraychik

Posted on 11/13/2018 3:19:02 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Victor Davis Hanson told Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow on Monday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily that French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal for a European Union army is “absurd,” noting France’s failure to meet its financial commitments to NATO.

Hanson reflected on Macron’s Sunday remarks at the centennial commemoration of World War I’s armistice in Paris, France, where the French leader said, “Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism: Nationalism is treason.”

Hanson said, “I was kind of shocked, because here the host was taking the occasion to pose as Europe’s next leader by basically attacking not only Eastern European leaders, but Trump with his nationalist point, and then framing a hyper-fascist nationalist like Petain, who not only, you could argue about his behavior in World War I, good and bad, but he was the leader of French fascist nationalism in World War II, and yet Macron, historically illiterate, starts to praise him while he’s attacking Trump.”

When we get to the point the only real function of NATO is to drain US Taxdollars can we just up and quit?

I mean if the objective to the creation of NATO was against Russia when the Europeans are buying most of their energy from Russia it does kinda make one wonder doesn’t it?

I think we’re there more for us than we are for them. If that makes sense.

France can not pay NATO because it is paying all those muslims in hopes they do not murder frenchman or riot and destroy more property. Of course, the muslims still murder and riot.

I meant to post this paragraph from the article (mods: adding this still doesn't exceed acceptable excerpt size limit)...
[Woodrow Wilson] ended up a tragic figure,” assessed Hanson. “He missed one central point: When you’re a wartime figure, you have to put your national interest first, and you have to ensure victory, and humiliation [of the enemy], and the defeat of your enemy before you talk about peace. He talked about peace first and victory second. That didn’t work.”
I read an article here on FR the other day which reminded me that the U.S., with all its manufacturing capacity, didn't contribute one tank or aircraft to WWI because Wilson, the professor, "chose to run war production with a series of boards and administrations; the result was a bureaucratic mess." Maybe the frogs should build a Maginot Line to keep us out.

The French need us there. Sadly, the US is the only Country willing to make the hard sacrifices anymore it seems to me.

He’s French, it’s his nature to be politically absurd.

"I think we’re there more for us than we are for them. If that makes sense."

To quote Patton (the movie): "I don't like paying for the same real estate twice."

This was hinted at in the 1980s when they started buying natural gas (France and Germany). It got brought up again in the 1990s. Under Bush, it was discussed again.

Other than keeping some US forces in the UK (after BREXIT) and maybe holding some deal with the Italians for the naval port...there is nothing left to really spend US funding on bases in Europe.

Hanson is correct...five members of NATO can cover the 2-percent requirement. The rest can’t. I don’t see a problem in removing troops and just having some massive exercise every two years to show US mobility functions as advertised.

The creators of the Maginot Line want to engineer a new army? This will be fun to watch. Only next time maybe we should stay out of saving them.

It’s not can’t.

It’s won’t.

And the won’t is why the US should leave a vapor trail exiting NATO.

The French want a EU army, headed by the French but paid by EU taxpayers. But then armed with white flags and soldiers shouting “bang bang” because of the lack of funding for ammo.

Best approach? Wait until Macron's in bed doin' his fellow gay boyfriend, and cap 'em both, then call it in, so that's how he's found dead.

France should spend the money on trees for the boulevards.
That way whoever invades them can march in the shade.
