Amazon laid out its plans for two of the biggest economic development projects in the country on Tuesday, announcing that it will put major corporate outposts in New York City and Arlington, Va.

The two locations, in Long Island City in Queens and Crystal City in Arlington, just outside of Washington, will eventually house at least 25,000 employees each, the company said in a statement. It also said the new sites would require $5 billion in construction and other investments.

Disturbing a company has so much power where it decides to open some new HQs becomes national news. So Bexos chose the two Panems for their HQs.

Amazon is one of the richest companies in the world. Use of tax breaks to attract them is odious.

Stop crony capitalism.

Good for them. I cannot think of areas that “deserve” it more! Two of the highest real estate and tax rates in the country.

Thankfully, Amazon is not going to a Conservative state. I certainly did not want them in Texas.

Stop crony capitalism.

How about we stop taxing businesses to death and requiring "benefits"?

These two new Amazon HQs are right near the East Coast seats of political power. NYC and Washington DC.
Amazon will be lobbying the Swamp from these two locations.

Of course Jeff Bezos already owns the Washington Post.......More political influence there.

"The billionaire in 2016 purchased a mansion in the upscale Kalorama neighborhood of D.C. for $23 million. With the announcement of HQ2 coming to Arlington, Washingtonians may soon be seeing more of Bezos."

Glad to see that Amazon has such high regards for their employees that they chose two of the most expensive real estate markets in the country for them to live in.

Are you kidding? There is no way Amazon does this with NY and/or NYC without MASSIVE tax incentives. I bet they’ve got property and income tax holidays/reductions for up to a decade or more.

WHEW!!! Dallas is off the radar.

I wasn't looking forward to the rise in our housing prices, and 25,000 more people driving around and voting leftwing.

Are you kidding?

Actually no, I was talking about those living there. I know about the “tax incentives” aka bribes. What a lot of the local dopes don’t realize is the “bribes” are being paid by THEM indirectly as they have to pay for the additional costs of having them there!

How is Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto ever going to explain this to his latte-swilling bike-lane using Millenial techie constituents? They thought he had this in the bag.
