It’s in queens part of NYC. It is not long island.
She needs to call for an investigation to see how many tax breaks, and other incentives Amazon got to put that headquarters in NY City. All that money could be used for socialist programs.
Deblasio country.
This dingbat is the poster child of today’s liberal arts education system.
Boston University, you should be proud of one of your graduates.
Queens is on Long Island, but I forgot that it was in NYC proper. That’s even worse. So Amazon thought it would be a great idea to have its employees pay city income taxes. Bezos ought to have his head examined.
I agree with her. STOP CRONY CAPITALISM.
Clarification: I forgot Amazon was locating to NYC proper. I’ve been to Queens and of course know it is in NYC.
....and being outraged is new? LOLOL She's still in campaign mode.....
Just look at the busloads of “voters” that don’t know one iota about the real issues, but take the economy for granted, all the while obsessed with PC
[We need this woman and Nasty Pelosi to be the faces of the Demonrat Party.]
I wouldn’t be surprised if a good number of Republicans in her district voted for her just so they could enjoy two years worth of laughs from this idiot....
Sure signs of the End of Times, former STASI member become Prime Minister of Germany, Argentine bartender becomes Pope, Puerto Rican waitress become member of US House Representatives...SMH
But in this case, she’s like a broken clock. NY is paying $45,000 per year for these jobs, making their debt crisis WORSE not BETTER. (Since when does anyone making $130,000 per year actually pay $45,000 in taxes?)
New York. The next Venezuela.
“You should like, really stop that Amazon building from coming in and being all capitalist and stuff” requested the millenial chat subscriber.
“I know, right?” answered Ocasio-Cortez, licking the yellow cheese powder off her hand.
To the extent she is objecting to special subsidies or tax breaks for Amazon, I wholeheartedly agree with her as well. If you want to lure businesses with lower taxes, lower them for everyone. But her tweets go well beyond that to objecting to Amazon’s presence at all.
There’s a difference between crony capitalism and doing business in the real world. Long Island City is right next to Manhattan. It’s a stones throw from Ground Zero. This will be a huge boon to that area and a few tax holidays are a reasonable price to pay for luring a multi-billion dollar company. Most of the jobs created should mid-high level positions that will not be “low wage”.
New York is so expensive between taxes, rent, and on and on. It would be next to impossible to compete without sweetening the pot. If the people that negotiated the deal did their due diligence, it should be a win win.
>> Queens is on Long Island, but I forgot that it was in NYC proper. <<
It’s only been since 1898. Most people from Brooklyn forget that Brooklyn is part of NYC now. What’s funny is the disownership: to Long Islanders (Suffolk and Nassau), Queens and Brooklyn aren’t REALLY Long Island. (That was the problem with the Islanders; they were only half on Long Island!) To upstate, Long Island isn’t part of New York. (And if you ask a group of people where they’re from, and one is from Long Island, don’t be surprised to hear, “Illinois. Missouri. North Carolina. Vermont. Long Island.”) Meanwhile, to Long Islanders, “upstate” starts at the Bronx border. But to people from Buffalo, it starts somewhere near Syracuse.
