Parity: A shocking new study from a bipartisan panel charged with analyzing the Trump administration’s National Defense Study actually concludes that U.S. military advantages may have eroded to a point where it could lose a war with Russia or China.
The Washington Post reports:
The National Defense Strategy Commission, comprised of former top Republican and Democratic officials selected by Congress, evaluated the Trump administration’s 2018 National Defense Strategy, which ordered a vast reshaping of the U.S. military to compete with Beijing and Moscow in an era of renewed great-power competition.
While endorsing the strategy’s aims, the commission warned that Washington isn’t moving fast enough or investing sufficiently to put the vision into practice, risking a further erosion of American military dominance that could become a national security emergency.

But our military is much more diverse. We’ve got that going for us.

Thanks to both Bush the Younger and Obama for wasting literally trillions of dollars sending ultra-sophisticated and expensive hardware to kill a bunch of rag-headed goat phuckers living in caves, and failing to invest in the biggest force-multiplier of all, technology. The first is/was a numbnuts, the second an actual traitor.
Thankfully, even 16 years of drawing down on our military capital couldn’t destroy our capabilities to the point of impotence against our 2 chief adversaries, and even more thankfully, a real American with great common sense and practical experience is in charge. Perhaps now we’d be in trouble vs. the Russkies or Chinese (PERHAPS), but wait a few more years and we’ll once again be leagues ahead of both.
Frankly, I worry more about China since it has 4 times our population and a fast-growing economy. Russia has a bit more than 1/2 of our population and is falling behind every year, and its economy is about the size of NY State’s economy. Yes, their nukes and related systems are a big problem - if we get into a nuclear war with them. In a conventional war, they’d get in a few good punches, but would (IMHO) rather quickly be forced back into their homeland in a defensive mode...where, if such becomes the situation, we should leave them.
Trump spends a Trillion on the Military that is falling into the depths of despair and we are told the Military is weaker because of Trump. How many of you still don’t believe in the deep state? And the fact this comes first from the WP. That says a lot more.
I hope they start with the demodummies first.
Is anyone really surprised? The armies of both Russia and China are serious soldiers while our armed forces are social experiments. Even if that were not the case, our military would have insane rules of engagement hindering their cause.
This is not a knock on our beloved military. It is a knock on the Commanders in Chief prior to President Trump.

As to "we could lose" well of course. You could lose any war, nothing is certain. If you start thinking you can't lose, that's when you start making dangerous decisions.
