Trump wanted DOJ to prosecute Clinton, Comey: report

President Trump wanted to order the Department of Justice (DOJ) to prosecute his 2016 presidential opponent Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey, according to The New York Times.

Trump this past spring reportedly told then-White House counsel Don McGahn of his desire to prosecute the pair, prompting McGahn to rebuff the president, saying he did not have the authority to do so.

McGahn later told the president that he did have the authority, but warned that such a request would likely elicit accusations of abuses of power, the Times reported.

McGahn then promised to send a memo outlining the president's authorities, which he had White House lawyers compose. The memo warned that asking for the prosecutions could lead to Trump's impeachment or other negative repercussions.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment

McGahn left his role as White House counsel in October after 21 months. Trump chose commercial litigator Pat Cipollone to replace him.

The president continues to privately discuss the possibility of prosecuting Clinton and Comey, the Times reported, citing two people who have spoken to Trump about the matter.

It's unclear what charges Trump wanted prosecutors to pursue, the newspaper reported.

One of the people who spoke with Trump about his desire for the prosecutions said the president has consistently expressed disappointment with FBI Director Christopher Wray for not aggressively investigating Clinton, according to the Times.

Why should Trump have to tell the DOJ to do their damn job?

"... Trump wanted DOJ to prosecute Clinton, Comey: report..."

...... That was before the President found out that it's actually the DOJ, The Democrats, and Activist Judges who really run the country.

I will almost certainly vote for Trump AGAIN, but I will never forgive him for letting the Clintons, and all the other assorted sub-human filth laugh at justice. There are probably a dozen decent reasons NOT to prosecute, and every one of them I could have gotten from that pu&&y Jeb. And none of them outweigh the one GOOD reason to prosecute: JUSTICE.

This country will fail because of (a) illegal immigration, and (b) democrats being always absolutely and completely above the law in all respects, times, manner and place. It is THAT important.

That is why no one else can be tried and convicted of similar offences. NOT!

Either McGann is very uneducated to be White House counsel that he did not know the President can direct an investigation or order one ceased, or he lied to Trump to mislead him.

Then he finally admitted Trump did have the power, but bogged down into the politics of it.

Low life swamp creature. Any regular citizen would have been arrested and charged. A republic is supposed to make everyone equal before the law. That’s its most basic essence.

Trump appoints Deep Staters to virtually every job around him and then wonders why they don’t do the right thing?

It appears at times that Trump allows people who work for him to thwart his clearly expressed desires. Where is the FISA doc that he promised to “immediately declassify”? Evidently there was push back and Horowitz promptly buried them. And then there’s Rod Rosenstein who remains in his job long after having refused to cooperate with the congress and after having stated his intentions to secretly tape his boss! This is going on under Trump’s own executive branch by his own employees.

Trump cannot afford to let his credibility and authority be undermined like this. In fact, no president can.

If that is true, let us see the FISA docs (last promised for immediate release over two months ago).

It would have been a lot easier had he gotten rid of the Obama holdovers in his new administration. Its still loaded with them.

Let me get this straight: You can’t enforce clear law and violations thereof because someone somewhere will charecterize it as something else? Bullshit. Just do it.

If this country fails it will be because there is no opposition party to rampaging Democrat fascists. We don’t elect a king and Trump is the first POTUS in history who does not have the support of his own party. Even worse the GOP gives has aided and abetted the Mueller Coup at every oppornity. Given that your attacks on his handling of Hillary Criminal are totally without merit.

The Kavanaugh incident shows that even the uncompromised will be attacked and smeared with a tsunami of lies and innuendo.

And for the valiant, there is always the specter of suicide by flogging.
