Impeach the president? House Democrats saying not so fast

Whatever happened to trying to impeach President Donald Trump?

As House Democrats begin laying out the vision for their new majority, that item is noticeably missing from the to-do list and firmly on the margins.

The agenda for now includes spending on public works projects, lowering health care costs and increasing oversight of the administration.

It’s the balance that Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is trying to strike in the new Congress between those on her party’s left flank who are eager to confront the president, and her instinct to prioritize the kitchen-table promises that Democrats made to voters who elected them to office. […]

Instead, the incoming Democratic leaders of House committees will conduct oversight of the president’s business and White House dealings. Democrats are also trying to ensure special counsel Robert Mueller completes his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election. They may try to add legislation to protect that probe to the must-pass spending bill in December to help fund the government. They want Mueller’s findings made public.

“You have to be very reluctant to do an impeachment,” Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said recently on ABC. Nadler, who served on the committee during President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, cited “the trauma of an impeachment process.” …

The cat escaped the bag months ago; Waters’ big mouth trumpeted it all over the place. And so Nadler declares the illegal desire to impeach without “the trauma of an impeachment process” as he puts it, i.e. skirting the Constitution as they always do.

Ideally, they would like to impeach Trump in a closed-door hearing with all details supplied to the media by Maxine Waters, and coupled with Twitter banning Trump so he can’t say anything about it. :)

Few know better than Nadler the folly of impeaching into an unfriendly Senate.

There was never going to be an impeachment of POTUS Trump. And there will not be one in the future.

In fact the Democrats will never even hold a judiciary committee vote on the matter, much less a full floor vote. They don’t and won’t have the votes.

Democrats know overreaching could cost them their House majority.

And there’s zero chance of getting the Senate to remove him.

Why would he want to complete, and end, such a lucrative and cushy job?

Mueller’s job is to drag the investigation on until after the 2024 election.

The dems don’t want to impeach. They want a two year hatefest, which is (a) their cover for not getting anything done and (b) their comfort zone. They then want to run against Trump in 2020. Their problem is how to assuage the rabid section of their base, which wants heads on stakes.

“Mueller’s job is to drag the investigation on until after the 2024 election.”

Not now that Whitaker is in charge! There is an article posted elsewhere here on FR today outlining what Whitaker can do as Acting AG, and he has many tools that are not touchable by the courts that will put Mueller away very soon if that is his decision to do so. Trump has played this investigation correctly! We’e gotten through the mid terms and now with that behind him ( and with the Senate still in GOP hands) he can appoint judges until the cows come home, as well as flesh out his administration. From what I have seen, Trump has an unusually long list of judicial appointments already, and the Grim Reaper may offer him more “assistance!”

Smart move. They need Trump as a punching bag.

It’ll keep there Progre$$ive Pugilists in shape for the ‘20s.

Only 100 years ago, similar movements did far worse than just march, they destroyed, killed, obliterated their own lands and people in the pursuit of total power and control.

History repeats itself? Hell yeah!

to save paper, they could turn over all of the Republican/RINO bills to repeal Obamacare. You know, the ones with McCain stains on them......
