Berlin man, 95, charged over 36,000 deaths in Nazi camp

German prosecutors on Friday charged a 95-year-old man with more than 36,000 counts of accessory to murder over his alleged time as a Nazi concentration camp guard during World War II.

The allegations against the accused, identified only as Hans H., concern atrocities committed at the Mauthausen camp in Austria.

Hans H. is believed to have belonged to the SS-Totenkopfsturmbann (Death's Head Battalion) between summer 1944 and spring 1945 at Mauthausen, part of the Nazis' vast network of concentration camps.

Prosecutors argue that by working as a guard at the site, the accused contributed to tens of thousands of prisoner deaths.

During his time at the camp, at least 36,223 inmates died. Guards took part in killings by gas, fatal injections, gunfire and other means, while many more prisoners died of hunger or frostbite, prosecutors said.

"The accused is believed to have been aware of all the methods of killing as well as the disastrous living conditions of the inmates," their statement said.

"It is believed that he knew these methods of killing were used against a large number of people and that they could only be killed in this way, with this degree of regularity, if the victims were guarded by people like him."

A total of 200,000 people were held at Mauthausen, half of whom died before the camp's liberation by US troops in May 1945.

A Berlin court must now decide whether the case against Hans H. can proceed.

Germany has been racing to put on trial surviving SS personnel, after the legal basis for prosecuting former Nazis changed in 2011 with the landmark conviction of former guard John Demjanjuk.

George Soros by his own admission on a 60 Minutes show, sent over 100 people to their deaths at the hands of the nazi’s just so he could sell their belongings.

He needs to be executed.

I'm in one of 'those' moods, today; Europe needs to kiss our collective USA @ss for all we've done for them through the years. Instead, they continue to destroy themselves with stupid Socialist policies. We're not saving you from yourselves again, ya hear?

This guy needs to die...in the manner in which he helped to kill others. How these evil, EVIL people manage to live such long lives simply amazes me!

Let’s give the Nazis credit. Their gun control laws were very effective.

Exactly!
If we had followed the Russians lead there wouldn’t be any NAZIs left to prosecute.
Prosecutors for the western allies only went after the very top officials to “send a message”.
Then the condemned were given a broken neck by the hangman.

The Russians executed thousands.
They hung them by putting them on a truck, placing the noose on and slowly pulling away. The condemned swung until they suffocated. A fitting end to monsters in human form.

So, it took 'em 73 years to catch up with him? Or maybe the investigator was Robert Mueller? I'm got they got him, but this is just virtue signaling, nothing more.

He’s being charged for ,”contributing to their deaths” and apparently knowing about what was going on. I don’t see where he directly killed anyone. Is this a situation where someone is guilty, because he knew what was going on but didn’t do anything to stop it? If that’s the case, then what was he supposed to do?

Actually a lot of former Nazis found comfortable niches in the DDR. Not guys at the top other than a few Gestapo types but lots like this fellow who were considered good candidates to execute Stalin's orders as they had shown such diligence in serving the Fuhrer.

I suspect ‘H’ was a guard about 18/19 years old.

Just by being a guard? Assessory to murder? How about a cook? How about the civilians outside the camp that knew what was going on? Why don't we charge everyone that was alive and was a member of the Nazi party? They are all equally guilty.

It's amazing how our zeal for punishing the real evil doers was quenched immediately after the war. The Japanese were scarcely held accountable, and they executed and did medical experiments on our POWs.

A lot of Mauser 98s were made at Mauthausen. It was the home of Steyr, I believe. The people killed must have outlived their usefulness, or succumbed to debilitating illness. Many of the internees were skilled labor, hence their use in machining rifles.

Didn't George Soros 'buy' a pass from corrupt democrats and their fools in the press?

95 year olds were 21 or 22 in 1944/45. The youngest (not including those who were to young) participants in WW2 were born in 1927. I have a friend who graduated in 1945, was drafted into the Navy and was on the West coast training when the war ended.

Thousands? Well over a million of the German solders were captured by the Communists and never seen again.

Damn the Soviets and their methods. They presided over a slaughter much, much larger than the Holocaust and a system of camps every bit as horrific as the concentration camps. If the war against Nazism was a great crusade, as indeed it was, the only logical next step would have been to follow Patton’s advice and destroy the even greater monster.

Instead the Soviets were left to soil the world. They said they would destroy the United States from within, and look at our country...They did.

You actually sound like you are cool with that.

Maybe they weren’t your adored great grandparents who were crazy about your dad and loved him more than life.
