The Monstrous Thanksgiving Terror Plot the Fake News Media and Hollywood Ignore
Townhall.com ^ | November 24, 2018 | Humberto Fontova

On the morning of November 17th, 1962, FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. took on “all the trappings of a military command post,” according to historian William Breuer. The previous night an intelligence puzzle had finally come together. The resulting picture staggered the FBI men. And these had served at their posts during WWII and the height of the Cold War. They’d seen plenty. Now they had mere days to foil a crime against their nation to rival Hideki Tojo’s.

At the time (pre-Mueller! And pre-Comey!), the FBI relied heavily on “HUMINT” (Human Intelligence.) So they’d expertly penetrated the plot, identified the ringleaders and had them tapped.

Like hawks on a perch they’d been watching the plot unfold, sweating bullets the whole time. It was nearing time to swoop down on Fidel Castro and Che Guevara’s agents, who were busy with a terror plot that would have made Al Qaeda and ISIS drool decades later.

Alan Belmont was second to J Edgar Hoover at the time. Raymond Wannall headed the Bureau’s Intelligence Division. That nerve-jangling morning both were in Belmont’s office just down the hall from Hoover’s. Both were burning up the telephone lines to their agents in New York. On one phone they had Special Agent John Malone who ran the New York field office. On other lines they talked with several carloads of FBI agents slinking around Manhattan. These were keeping a touch-and-go, but more or less constant, surveillance on the ringleaders of the monstrous Cuban terror plot.

You see amigos: Castro’s agents had targeted Macy’s, Gimbels, Bloomingdales, and Manhattan’s Grand Central Station with a dozen incendiary devices and 500 kilos of TNT. The holocaust was set for detonation the following week, on the day after Thanksgiving.

A little perspective: For their famous March 2004 Madrid subway blasts, all 10 of them, that killed and maimed almost 2,000 people, al-Qaeda used a grand total of 100 kilos of TNT. Castro and Che’s agents planned to set off five times that explosive powerin the three biggest department stores on earth, all packed to suffocation and pulsing with holiday cheer on the year’s biggest shopping day. Macy’s get’s 50,000 shoppers that one day. Thousands of New Yorkers, including women and children—actually, given the date and targets, probably mostlywomen and children—were to be incinerated and entombed. (“We greeted each other as old friends,” gushed Jimmy Carter when visiting Fidel Castro in 2002.)

One by one the ringleaders were methodically ambushed. The first was named Roberto Santiesteban, who worked as a Cuban “diplomat” at the UN. He was nabbed while walking down Riverside Drive. As the agents closed in, Santiesteban saw them and –took off, while jamming paper in his mouth and chewing furiously.

But six FBI agents were after him, all fleet of foot themselves. Finally they closed the ring and “triangulated” the suspect. Santiesteban fell, raging and cursing, flailing his arms and jabbing his elbows like a maniac. They grabbed his arm and bent it behind his back just as he was reaching for his pistol.

Among the other apprehended terrorist ringleaders were two KGB-trained Cuban agents who also worked as “diplomats” in Cuba’s UN mission. Their names were Jose Gomez-Abad and Elsa Montero.Alas, all these “diplomats” enjoyed “diplomatic immunity” and were soon back in Cuba as heroes instead of in electric chairs at Sing Sing.

“Elsa Montero and Jose Gomez Abad championed this project,is a phrase that appears in the acknowledgements to a book titled, Inside the Cuban Revolution by the Council on Foreign Relations Senior Fellow and Fake Mews Media commentator Dr. Julia Sweig. “In Cuba many people spent long hours with me, helped open doors I could not have pushed through myself, and offered friendship and warmth to myself during research trips to the island”

Among many other scholarly accomplishments, according to her own CV, “Dr. Sweig…helped lay the groundwork for President Obama’s current (Cuba) policy initiative.”

Julia Sweig is director for Latin America studies at the Council on Foreign Relations,is how NPR introduces this favorite quest commentator of theirs.

“Julia Sweig heads the Latin American division for the Council on Foreign Relations,"ishow Stephen Colbert introduces her on his show.

“Julia E. Sweig is senior fellow and director of Latin America studies at the Council on Foreign Relations,"isThe New York Times’ intro.

And CBS proudly claims Julia Sweig as a their very own “CBS News Analyst.”

Oh, by the way: didn’t practically every one of the media outfits mentioned above who proudly host and source Julia Sweig, bitterly denounce Fox News for sourcing Sebastian Gorka, owing to Gorka’s (unproven) links to the dreaded “alt-right?”

Whooh!  Well at least media darling Dr. Julia Sweig is untainted by such a dastardly association!

And can you imagine the blockbuster Hollywood could put together about this plot—if only they could cast the villains as “right-wingers!”

Any ‘diplomat’ involved in a criminal plot should be reclassified as an enemy combatant, and lose diplomatic immunity.

Indeed. They should be immediately "shot mistakenly" during the confusion of the apprehension . And we're ever so sorry about that. 😢

and their head.

I was thinking recently the UN building in NYC is almost 70 years of age. Time to build a new one, in Somalia.

In keeping with his “bull in the China shop” reputation, I would love to see President Trump tweet about this...just to make the Leftists go nuts, and remind the history-challenged among us aware of who the Communists were and are.

Well if we did that, our diplomats would be in constant danger the world over, and wouldn’t have to have done anything other than be American diplomats. So I humbly have to disagree with you on this issue. While it may sound good, it would have terrible re-percussive consequences.

Wow!! Never heard about this. But why would I? Our PM for much of my youth (Palme (1969-76, 1982-86) was an ardent admirer of Fidel Castro and so were many in the Swedish Foreign Office. And of course our servile media followed suit.

BTW Macy’s, Gimbels, Bloomingdales, and Manhattan’s Grand Central Station - all military targets of course! /s (if needed)

"Well if we did that, our diplomats would be in constant danger the world over..."

Yeah, next thing you know a muzzi government somewhere would be grabbing hostages and holding them hostage for 444 days, or maybe they'd blow up one of our embassies and kill the ambassador and his staff.

Nope, they have already done that. Instead they will level false charges against them. You can be snarky all you want, but his suggestion is not the answer. It was even a response I entertained for a second, but then thought about the bigger picture.

For those atrocities that you did mention, that is when you go to Congress and ask for a declaration of war. We didn't, so blame the Presidents (Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Obama) at the time of the attacks. There is also the option of a retaliatory attack, but people (not me) seem to frown on that too.

The host country can do that whenever they want. But they have to get everyone out of the US Embassy, in the other country first. Otherwise we’re trading people for people.

I don’t think his original suggestion was as what you think it was.

In this day and age, no one can be Leonidas and kick the Diplomat Messenger into the abyss. We all know that.

I think it was more, wishful thinking, because damn near every US Embassy would be under siege within a week or less.

However, with technology being what it is. With air travel being what it is. With the State Dept being filled with Radical Leftists/Socialists/Progressives/Communists/Drunk/Drug Addicts/Sexual Tourists/American Hating American/Apologists for all things not Christian, it’s time to rethink the necessity for massive embassies all around the world. That’s not to say that they need to be eliminated, outright. But, I fail to see the reason for an embassy the size of a city block in the UK. As it is, it’s nothing more than a way to allow US government workers the chance to travel on the taxpayer dime. I saw all of this while I was protecting them in Baghdad. I’ve heard their Anti-American conversations. They absolutely loathed Bush and Rice. They absolutely adored soetero and clinton.

Trust me, I have no problem pulling back from having embassies around the world. I don’t think they help one iota in making the world safer. Having a powerful military and technological capabilities does far more to keep world bad guys in check.

Googling this dude produces copious hits on a surgeon in Lexington, VA (of all places) and precious little on a Cuban terrorist. I was about to proclaim fake news, but, on the second page of search results was a link to one Roberto Santiesteban Casanova.

Googling Roberto Santiesteban Casanova is much more productive. E.g., here is a contemporaneous (nov-17-1962) story:

View the rest here. That's Roberto pictured at bottom.

They were clearly up to no good, but there is no mention of the 0.5 kt of TNT:

It seems this case blew over relatively quickly. From 19 November 1962:

Sabotage Suppliers Sent Home

NEW YORK (UPI) -A Cuban husband and wife diplomatic team accused of supplying a three-mem-ber sabotage ring with weapons will leave the United States this afternoon, it was announced today. A spokesman for the U. S. Mission to the United Nations said Jose Gomez Abad, 31, and his wife, Elsa, 20. members of the permanent Cuban mission to the United Nations, will leave aboard an Aeronaves de Mexico flight at 2 p.m. PST. One to Trial Government legal experts sa:d another Cuban. U. N. attache Roberto Santiesteban Casanova, 27, was the leader of the ring and would be brought to trial for espionage. Santiesteban was held in $250,000 bail. He and two others, Jose Garcia Orellana, 42. and Atononio Suerio Cabreara, 22. were arrested by the FBI Saturday on espionage and conspiracy charges. The government said they planned to plant bombs in Manhattan department stores during the busy Christmas season and touch off fires at oil refineries in northern New Jersey. Seek Release Cuban diplomats worked feverishly to gain Santiesteban's release. He arrived in the United States Oct. 3 under a diplomatic passport as an attache on the mission. At the time of his arrest, however, his diplomatic papers were still being processed by the State Department. U. S. legal experts said because of this Santiesteban could be brought to trial. The FBI raided Garcia's place of business, a costume jewelry store, and found a cache of guns and explosives.
