The Doomsday Cult

The end is near, we’re all going to die. Unless, that is, we empower government to control more of the economy and our lives. It’s a standard trick of the left – predict doom and gloom in the future in an attempt to scare the Hell out of people while promising to avoid it if we let them get their way. While this could apply to nearly anything Democrats are pushing on any given day, this week it’s about global cooling. I mean, global warming. Er, scratch that, climate change…for now, at least.

The government issued another climate report on Friday, as required by law, and it is full of…well, let’s just call it hyperventilating about how we’re destroying the planet. The report “is based on more than 1,000 previous research studies,” according to the Associated Press. That means two things – it’s based on the work of others, mainly people whose job is dependent on perpetuating the climate change myth, and it’s not new. But hey, it’s on official letterhead this time, so “STOP THE PRESSES,” or something.

The problem with these sorts of “studies” is the main conclusion is already made before the actual work begins. These academics aren’t studying to see if the changing climate is caused by man or nature, it’s simply accepted as faith that it’s man’s fault. So these studies are done to reinforce preconceived notions and justify jobs. These academics who conduct them have to justify their jobs and bring in grant money, government grant money; our money.

Yet this is nothing new. Liberals have been pushing the “we’re all going to die because we’re destroying the planet” idea for decades. Long before the famous “global cooling” episode in the 1970s, they were pushing this narrative for control.

As I found in researching my book, in 1958, none other than liberal icon Betty Friedan wrote in Harper’s magazine that scientists were certain “the glacial thermostat, the present interglacial stage is well advanced; the earth is now heading into another Ice Age.”

That was the “consensus” thinking until the 1980s. Then it became the opposite – global warming. Weirdly, the solution remained the same, more government power. When the nominal “warming” stopped and the 10-year predictions of calamity didn’t come to pass, they changed the cries to “climate change.”

This deception was brilliant marketing, no matter what happened in any given year, at any given time, it could be attributed to climate change.

But when you say New York or Miami will be under water in 10 years, and 10 years passes without the flood, a normal person might rethink their claims. A doomsday cult leader who predicts the end of the world on Monday will have some explaining to do on Tuesday. The climate cult isn’t burdened by realities like that.

After 30 years of 10-year predictions of destruction not coming to pass, they didn’t reassess, they changed the unit of measure. The old 10-year window has become a 100-year window.

I write in my book, Scientific American reported “It is fair to say that citizens and politicians intend for Miami, and indeed the whole State of Florida, to exist well beyond 2100. Same for New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., London, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Mumbai and so on. Yet the same people discount staggering losses these places face beyond 2100.”

This is but one example of the rush of new 100-year predictions of destruction. This was done because by the time 100 years comes to pass, everyone alive now to hear them will be dead. No explaining in the morning. They can’t be proven, but more importantly they can’t be disproven. That’s a lot of things, and none of them are science.

In the 1970s, when the fear was the coming ice age, Newsweek reported, “Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even allay its effects.” Sound familiar?

One “solution” proposed then, I found, was “’melting the arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers,’ though it conceded that doing so ‘might create problems far greater than those they solve.’”

As crazy and, frankly, primeval, as that sounds, they’re still at it. This week, researchers from Harvard and Yale proposed “dimming the Sun” by “using a technique known as stratospheric aerosol injection, which they say could cut the rate of global warming in half.”

So a problem they’ve declared with barely 50 years’ worth of reliable data, and have redefined in both directions before claiming all directions prove their point, warrants literally playing God with the atmosphere? Am I the only one who thinks that’s insane?

We’ve only had satellites able to measure atmospheric temperatures for about 50 years. That’s not even half a blink of an eye in the planet’s history. Yet we’re supposed to be governed by an ever-changing “consensus” of people with the prediction success rate of the average MegaMillions player? Hell no.

There is, of course, much more none of these cultists want to talk about – the medieval warm period, the little ice age, etc. – and we must talk about all of them. Newly empowered liberals are looking to enact a “green new deal,” another massive power grab by the government every bit as dangerous to our liberty as anything to government has ever tried. While it won’t go anywhere now, Democrats only control the House, the left never quits. It’s been more than 60 years since they’ve wanted to control the health care system in the country and, thanks to their patience and Republican ineptitude, they’re almost completely there.

We need to be on guard and ready to stand up this cult everywhere it rears its ugly head, every billionaire looking to impose their religion on us for their profit must be defeated. Their devotion seems laughable now, but it really only matters who has the last laugh.

“Science” has prostituted itself for grant money. They are just like pollsters...”Tell us the result you want and I will formulate a poll to give you those results!”

“Science” has been generating studies that insure the continuation of grant money, and since the grant money comes from the government bureaucracy, “Scientists” will give them the answers they want.

Climate change cultists want to take away human freedom.

That’s the bottom line. Everything else is mere details.

““using a technique known as stratospheric aerosol injection, which they say could cut the rate of global warming in half.”

#1 I thought aerosol aided in destroying ozone layer - isn’t that what they clammored about and were working to get all aerosol devices banned or changed?

#2 cut the rate of global warming in half - since global warming is a lie, we would then still have half the rate of a lie?

It has no affect on the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. These people are stupid.

i agree with you, and I should have labeled sarc. they are quite stupid in ways that really count, yet suck up big amounts of money and many live well to do lives based on their junk/self focused ideas in science that they push on the rest of us.

"We’ve only had satellites able to measure atmospheric temperatures for about 50 years."

Not even that. 70% of the planat's surface is a heat sink, and only in the last 20 years has reliable IR temperature data of the atmosphere over the oceans been collected.
Ships have collected temperature and pressure data along set routes, for the last 150 years, but VAST areas have simply been ignored. Yet, we are supposed to take these studies as Holy Writ.

Better idea. Anyone who still votes democrat must be assigned a government guardian, helmet and boxing gloves, and spoon fed twice a day...

#1 I thought aerosol aided in destroying ozone layer - isn’t that what they clammored about and were working to get all aerosol devices banned or changed?

Aerosol spray is a type of dispensing system which creates an aerosol mist of liquid particles. This is used with a can or bottle that contains a payload and propellant under pressure.

Some propellants were deemed bad for the ozone layer

Aerosols are minute particles suspended in the atmosphere. When these particles are sufficiently large, we notice their presence as they scatter and absorb sunlight. Their scattering of sunlight can reduce visibility (haze) and redden sunrises and sunsets. https://www.nasa.gov/centers/langley/news/factsheets/Aerosols.html

Same name but completely different things. The idea that aerosols would cut sunlight is sound, but an incredibly stupid to contemplate doing that. When volcanoes spew aerosols into the stratosphere, they not only cut sunlight and temperature, but they cause the death of some corals, forests, etc that rely on a certain amount of sunlight.

As for "global warming", it is real and it is good. The idea that we should stay (or have stayed) at Little Ice Age temperatures is insane. Also the earth was CO2 starved in the last ice age, just 20k years ago. We had the lowest CO2 in earth's history, and it's a long history. CO2 starvation ih the past million or so years has caused the evolution of C4 plants like corn and sugarcane which are extremely effective at sucking CO2 out of the air even though they end up dead in the ice age.

The only thing preventing permanent ice age on earth was the fact that those plants mostly died and allowed CO2 to recover a bit and warm things back up. But what prevents an ice age now is manmade CO2. It's the best thing we have done to the planet.

I agree completely with your second sentence. But injecting stratospheric aerosols would very definitely affect CO2. It would increase it because dimming the sun would stunt plant growth.

“using a technique known as stratospheric aerosol injection, which they say could cut the rate of global warming in half.”

In the 1970’s, they proposed dusting the poles with soot, to increase solar absorption to combat Global Cooling (the climate catastrophe du jour).

God is in control. science runs behind to try to play catch up but still only knows a portion of what is good for people to do or not to do. If God wants an ice age He will bring it on, all the man made CO2 won’t stop it. Live as God says and people would have no legitimate worries about the rest of what is happening around, but instead people like to think and pretend they are more powerful than God.

We all have free will. We can wisely cut down useless trees and plant new ones or just burn every tree in the Amazon rainforest for no good reason. We can live where we choose and how we choose and collectively that makes mankind an influence on the planet no matter what we do as individuals. It's best to acknowledge the effects of our own actions and collective actions and acknowledge them honestly.

We should not beleive stories from the left the mankind and capitalism is a scourge. Nor should we simply ignore the environment by pretending God is in charge and will fix any problems we create. Both of those are extreme views. The truth is in the middle, we must be conscious of what we do, conservative, and not wasteful.

+10

And those ‘results’ give runaway, tax-grabbing, socialist-hearted politicians the fuel for doomsday issues and claiming they, and only they, can save us all. We just need new taxes and fed departments and citizen cooperation and viola!, much less problem (of course, it’s never gone).

And the soft-minded masses buy into it.

“Nor should we simply ignore the environment by pretending God is in charge and will fix any problems we create.”

That is not any true Christian’s perspective. We are instructed to be stewards of God’s creation. Look at the Amish for an example of this.

“In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.” -- Theodore Dalrymple [Wiki attributes this to Anthony Daniels, TD is his nom de plume]
Hatred is the most accessible and comprehensive of all unifying agents. It pulls and whirls the individual away from his own self, makes him oblivious of his weal and future, frees him of jealousies and self-seeking. He becomes an anonymous particle with a craving to fuse and coalesce with his like into one flaming mass... Mass movements can rise and spread without belief in a God, but never without belief in a devil... Common hatred unites the most heterogeneous elements. To share a common hatred, with an enemy even, is to infect him with a feeling of kinship, and thus sap his powers of resistance... We have it from Hitler... that the genius of a great leader consists in concentrating all hatred on a single foe. [pp 85-87]
