Police in Alabama promised transparency Monday after a weekend of protests in response to an officer fatally shooting a black man who pulled out his legally permitted weapon following gunfire at a shopping mall.
Hoover Police initially described the officer as "heroic" for bringing down Emantic "EJ" Bradford Jr. after two people were wounded at the Riverchase Galleria mall outside Birmingham Thanksgiving night. Then they retracted the statement, saying it's "unlikely" Bradford was involved.

Wonder what "brandished" means in this context? Was he pointing it forward in the shooting position or would this include holding it in the ready position with the muzzle pointing at the ground?
Stow your weapon when the threat is gone.
Stow your weapon when LEOs arrive, or risk being mistaken for the threat.
You would think tons of mall video exist, and the actual shooter would be identified by this point and the cops on the trail. Yet, none of that seems to be happening. In this case, people are asking questions and the police response is marginal.
“21-year-old Army veteran”
As I understand the guy did not make it through AIT before he was released. That does not qualify as an Army Veteran to me.
Umm,,, why not release it now? Afraid it might show a trigger happy cop trying to be a hero? Still need time to come up with a plausible explanation?
Ruh Roh, the police screwed up bad it would seem
Well color me confused... We had friends in the mall when this went down, so I have been following here locally. The initial report was an 18 year old and a 21 year old got into an altercation and the instigator (21 year old) was shot by a “good guy with a gun” but not before an innocent 12 year old was also hit. Then it was changed from “good guy with a gun” to mall security. What didn’t change was the age of the instigator (21) and his name (this guy).
You don’t know why he was released early. Maybe he was injured in an accident. He chose to enter and there is no evidence that his discharge was questionable.
Smarten up.
Too many details missing from this story. Something is just not adding up.
This is a sad situation. It has been a topic of debate here at FR for years.
“If you are carrying and a situation breaks out, should you engage?”
Clearly for EJ, the answer was no.
It's what the Left wants anyway.
The best term to describe a black man who concealed carries is “suicidal”.
"...stow your weapon..."
Perhaps it may be of some help to speculate on some rumors about the mall cop’s background as well?
“We can say with certainty Mr. Bradford brandished a gun during the seconds following the gunshots”
...
Does this mean the police and the officer that shot Bradford was on scene within seconds, or do they mean 900 seconds?
Tragic set of circumstances.
I saw a series of photos of the recently deceased this weekend with many showing his fingers doing gang signs. Now I see the same photos cropped at the elbows.
quote for truth
How much time between the arrival of leos and the shooting? Was there any command to drop the weapon?
