President Trump demands a border wall. Will Kevin Yoder get him the money to build it?
McClatchy ^ | November 26, 2018 | Bryan Lowry

Kevin Yoder is one of the key players in the border wall drama that will define Congress and the White House over the next few weeks— ... Yoder, R-Kansas, chairs the House panel that helps set funding levels for the DHS. [He] could end up getting credit as the person who helped President Donald Trump build his long-promised wall along the border with Mexico...[snip]

Congress has until Dec. 7 to pass a spending plan to fund much of the federal government. If it fails, several agencies, including DHS, would face a partial shutdown. Yoder’s last major act as a congressman will be to try to guide to passage the bill that provides billions for the border wall. He is one of four principal negotiators along with Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, D-CA,Ca Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-WV, and Sen. Jon Tester, D-MT...[snip]

The House version ... provides $5 billion in funding for a border wall, ... The Senate version steers $1.6 billion toward extra border security.... How Yoder navigates this process will become an important part of his political resume if he pursues a comeback in 2020 or seeks to land a lobbying job.... It’ll also have major stakes for Trump’s re-election campaign...[snip]

... Yoder’s willingness to work with Democrats on immigration, including a provision to prevent family separations... and... legislation to remove the per-country cap on green cards.

The measure is intended to help immigrants from India and China on work visas avoid the decades-long wait for green cards under the current system because of the high number of people coming to the US from those countries.... The Senate bill does not include the provision, but a broad range of senators back the legislation...[snip]

Yoder's fix for the green card system would affect ~ 1 million people, mainly high tech workers..... It would enable these high-skilled immigrants to obtain green cards sooner by removing the per country cap and in turn allow them to switch companies, apply for patents, and start their own businesses.

Fresco, the lobbyist for this states that it: “will have a much greater effect on our economy over the next five years than the difference between $2 or $5 billion for the border wall,”[snip]

Yoder's plan faces opposition from the conservative Center for Immigration Studies. This is explained within the article.

The current cap system is kind of crazy because it strictly goes by demand from your country of origin.

An Engineer from India who has his PhD could wait 7 to 9 years. A cab driver from Yemen might wait two.

Nuts.

If we keep shutting down the border, it will eventually be profitable for Mexico to pay for it.

Yoder lost reelection and is exiting the stage. If he can negotiate some billions for the wall, Trump should grab the money.

Yoder doing his job? It’d be a novel act to go out on I guess.

The Senate is the real problem, the House passed $5 billion for the wall, the Senate only came up with $1.6 billion.

I don’t want more foreignors coming in on any kind of green card/visa and being able to start up companies. It’s still a main way they can suck benefits/grants out of us and make money and hire more foreigners and possibly send money out of country.

Like chobanni i read is foreignor started and does what it can to hire foreignors.

I’d like to see border wall and other sorts of ways to secure it quickly and properly built, Stop all immigration for 6 months to a year. Try to see what actual USA citizen workers can fill the specialty jobs the foreignors seem to keep being brought in for as well as any other jobs USA citizens can fill. lower number that can come from all countries for at least 2 years once we start accepting people in again and from ZERO from various countries especially those that had higher numbers coming in in recent years under BO.

The measure is intended to help immigrants from India and China to:

- depress American tech job wages
- establish a foothold for importing their 8+ member extended families
- stink up more neighborhoods with curry

Give the Senate a bill with the 5 billion.

It is a total disgrace that the RATS vote against a defense of our country. They truly are the enemy within.

"President Trump demands a border wall. Will Kevin Yoder get him the money to build it?"

..... LOL ..... This will more than likely be the last chance for Trump to get the funding ..... Under the next configuration of Congress ..... The chance of getting funding will be set at Zero Percent. The Democrats know this and will stonewall until they will be in control. In short ...... Ain't gonna happen.

The Hindus will work hard for years and take the money back with them to India were they will make a fortune;

The Chinese will work hard for years and then take the intellectual property back to China were they will be heroes of the state and make a fortune;

The Arabs will work as it suits them and take the money home (what they haven’t spent on women, drugs and alcohol) and finance jihad.

Trump can haggle all he wants on the “wall”. He should just order the military to build similarly effective fortifications along the wall. A defense in depth with multiple lines of trenches, tank traps, barbed wire, bunkers, berms, communication systems and on and on would be just as good. Without fortifications, we need higher numbers of military to maintain order and security.

Fortifications would greatly reduce the need for troops and an assault would trigger a rapid deployment ready to face the invaders.

As soon as the Dems take the House under their control, cut financing of the wall to zero, slash military spending republicans will primary all the sitting republicans up for election, voting for some light weight politician who promises to support DJT but will be defeated in the General, stay home, or vote democrat to teach those rinos a lesson.

And that is how the US became a full-fledged socialist failed state.

McCarthy, his office confirmed to Breitbart News, will introduce a bill this week (10/10/2018) that includes the full funding for the border wall–about $23.4 billion more than what has already gone to the wall effort–as well as several other enforcement measures that have already passed the House of Representatives. Congress has already directed $1.6 billion to wall funding in the omnibus spending bill for fiscal year 2018 that just passed Congress, and McCarthy’s new bill–titled the “Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act”–would take the wall the rest of the way, in addition to providing for a variety of enforcement measures.
