Editorial: Global warming is a Midwest crisis in the making
Chicago Tribune ^ | November 27, 2018 | Editorial Board

Did the autumn blizzard that snarled Monday’s commute send a message on climate change? Deniers likely took comfort. As President Donald Trump smugly tweeted last week when he saw a wintery forecast: “Whatever happened to Global Warming?”

For the rest of us, though, who accept the science, this storm — one of the worst November storms to hit the Chicago area — was a reminder: Weather extremes are costly and dangerous. Prepare for more.

Certainly one snowfall was neither proof of climate change nor a rebuttal; it was an individual event and not unprecedented. But look at Monday’s damage from downed power lines and trees — the lost productivity and general inconvenience.

Maybe the president will wake up to the threat. Otherwise, members of Congress can take the lead to re-establish priorities that include reducing carbon emissions from coal plants and vehicles. The public also has an important say — as voters, yes, but also as consumers who can choose environmentally friendly products and therefore push companies to act.

As Gary Yohe, an economics and environment expert at Wesleyan University, told the Washington Post, “We have wasted 15 years of response time. If we waste another five years of response time, the story gets worse.”

Or, to think more positively: It’s not too late to act.

When the world enters a devastating Maunder Minimum ice age, the News Misleadia will call it Global Warming.

They are beyond anything Tass or Pravda ever envisioned.

Please, someone, show me the science they accept. Can anyone produce serious documentation?

The main reason I check out your posts is the inevitable, sardonic appearance of Herr Goebbels as the symbol of Global Warming B.S.

Wut? Look at your Mother’s skidmark stained granny-panties, they have just as much to do with Gorebull warming.

I hope NYC is under 30 feet of snow by February. I want to see the Fake news pundits praise the paris accords for reversing the warming trends and making their homes uninhabitable. NYC streets filled with garbage and snow.

So an early season snowstorm in Chicago is now evidence of global warming?????

“Deniers”

I.e., deniers of the scientific method. Evidently self-referential.

The author accepts the science he agrees with.

Do these people believe if the US chokes it’s economy then the problem is fixed?

What the heck, the enviro nuts can't even keep their own language straight.
It's "CLIMATE CHANGE" numbskull, to make sure you're covered when people notice it's getting colder.

The world has cooled faster in the last two years than ever in recorded history. Two years, is that just weather? I guess it could be but I think not. We have a sleeping sun. While NASA has recorded sunspots this year they have been very few and most of what has been recorded were tiny what we used to call moles.

There are many scientists warning of a Grand Minimum, one perhaps lower than we have had in over 1000 years.

Cooling is what you get in Solar minimums, crop failures is what you get in grand minimums. We used to hear about retreating glaciers, you don’t hear that anymore because MOST glaciers are growing and that is scary. This past week Chicago had snow falling at the rate of two inches per hour for nearly a weekend. Try a few weeks of 50 inches snow fall per day. There is no place to put that much snow. Many thousands will die, perhaps millions. Think of it, snow higher than houses with no electricity. No gas to run cars, no heat to thaw food so you can eat your canned goods. Freezing to death and starvation are what await us if we aren’t prepared.

So what do we do to prepare? Carbon Credits. Ha Ha!

This will not be funny.

If you live in the north, better be buying some property in the south, south of the Ohio River if you have any understanding of what is happening.

The south will not be unscathed however. In most of Kentucky Frost Free dates are up until October 10 and after May 10. When all of May is lost and all of October is lost that will mean one crop seasons and only a few selected crops will survive. When there is frost in June and July like in the 1830’s we will start eating all the animals we can find. Dogs and cats won’t be safe.

Not a pretty sight to behold.

Fortunately I have a place in Southern Florida. Even in SW Florida where there is never, well almost never a frost there have bee a few very close calls in the last few years.

The world IS cooling and people ignore it at their own peril.

Scold Trump for his remark after a weather event. Then, turn around and do the same after a weather event.

Anything to con the suckers into sacrificing their wealth to benefit the rulers. Pathetically the suckers are blindly submitting. Brain washing is nearly completed. The fools are convinced the money will allow creation of a weather control machine.

But it’s not caused by my wife’s SUV. So what can be done to reverse the cooling?

Preparing for warming and preparing for cooling are very different. So when are the “experts” going to make up their minds?

Somehow accepting the science is different from believing. In the middle ages you accepted the Church teachings or were tried for heresy and burned at the stake or featured in a public hanging or tortured by having your skin peeled off while you were still alive. These people don’t see the similarities with superstition that their science bears.

Well, yes, it is. Al Gore, winner of the Nobel Prize in climatology explained it. As the globe warms up, it cools down, or something.

Deniers go on and on about the Medieval Warm Period this, and the Little Ice Age that, but Professor Michael Mann has written a computer program which proves without a shadow of a doubt that these two alleged events never happened. His program demonstrates that the climate was absolutely stable until about 1970, when evil Republicans invented the SUV.

His computer model is so robust that whatever data is fed into it, the same result emerges. What more proof could the Deniers want?

“Otherwise, members of Congress can take the lead to re-establish priorities that include reducing carbon emissions from coal plants and vehicles.”

How about India, China and other countries that are polluting the water and air clean up their act first?
