I get into trouble with the old joke about that cold day when they hanged Tojo for war crimes;
“Oho, there’s a little nip in the air this morning!”
Prolly had an interesting slant on things
I saw a plate on a Honda Prelude that said “&FUGUE”.
Uh, it belonged to a music teacher.
My ex secretary was in manzanar. Not too accepting of the word Jap. Heard it hundreds of time sin the camp and when her family’s land was taken away.
You and I are Siamese brains. You need help. Now. ;-D
Only if it slips.
Well, she did, but that comment’s kinda inappropriate.
That was good! I saw one many years ago on a Honda bearing FENRY.
**What about WOP?**
Reminds me of the dog food sold at CO-OP several years ago.
GRIMALDI’S DOG FOOD.
WOPPIN’ TO PLEASE!
DAGO FOR GRIMALDIS!
Or Catholics. But I repeat myself.
Italian Tires
Dago Here Dago There, and when Dago flat dago Wop Wop Wop.
“How about NIP?”
Do they still sell “Cheese Nips”?
Offended?
I would totally pick that for my daughters cars.
Weve been I the USA too long. Theyre becoming annoying.
People are waaaaaaaay too sensitive these days. We’re I of Japanese ancestry, I’d be tickled pink at having “JAP” on the plate.
I frequently see a license plate in my city: CNN-666
I hear you, but it was just a word. I wasn’t around in the 1940s, but I know the country scared to death after Pearl Harbor and some had made the claim that Japanese Americans were put in the camps for their protection...and given what Americans were thinking at the time, that is believable.
As to losing land, that one is tougher to explain away - however, I do know of one case where a piece of crappy swamp land was given to one family after the war as a way of ‘compensating’ for the taking of their original land (about 1 square mile). That piece of land is now centered Warner Ave. and Bolsa Chica St. in Huntington Beach, and needless to say, that family doesn’t have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck and probably never will have to worry.
As to the word “Jap”, I treat it like the N-word - it has no place in modern America.
“I dated a girl from Japan in college. It was... entertaining...”
I remember someone posting here saying something like the following: “If you think Asian woman are submissive, you’ve never married one”. Something that I agree with, based on first-hand knowledge.
She her mother and father got 30,000 each in reparations. In late 80s or early 90s. The land that was taken away in florin. Worth about 1.2 mill
