Argentina's advice ahead of G20 summit: get out of Buenos Aires

BUENOS AIRES - Argentina will launch a massive security operation in coming days to try to ensure a calm meeting of the leaders of the G20 bloc of nations in Buenos Aires, calling a national bank holiday on Friday and shutting down the city’s main business district.

With local merchants riled about losing business on Friday and Saturday, and anti-globalization protesters preparing to march, the government has advised anyone not involved in the G20 to take Friday off and get out of town for a long weekend.

The lockdown of parts of the city will start on Thursday night and last until Sunday.

Protests have been a fixture of past G20 events, and hooded anti-capitalist militants clashed with police in last year’s summit in Hamburg, Germany, torching cars, smashing shops and injuring officers.

Banks, markets and government offices will be closed in Buenos Aires on Friday.

“Our recommendation is to use the long weekend to get away,” Security Minister Patricia Bullrich said in a recent television interview.

“Take off after work on Thursday because the city is going to get very challenging. Our security measures will be very strong and the decisions that we will make if there is violence will be immediate,” she said.

They should hold the next one on Alcatraz. For several reasons.

I hope they are serious.

Leftist violence and government lack of a response to it has become a joke.

Law and order is government’s first duty to the citizen. Protection of property should be paramount.

I was dumbfounded when France stood by and did nothing when ‘Asian’ (Muslim) youth were permitted to burn car and rampage in Paris for days.

How can you say that you have a government when you allow such lawlessness in your capital city.

[ torching cars, smashing shops and injuring officers. ]

I guess shooting those who set fire to the automobiles is out of the question?

Of course it gets worse after that.

“and anti-globalization protesters preparing to march,...”

You won’t need to take your socks off, to count the number of Trump supporters in the bunch.

Remember the violent anti-globalization riots in N. America and Europe? The violent left rioted against globalization — now they riot against the world’s most powerful anti-globalist. Go figure, eh?

I get even more annoyed when I realize there is a known and fairly simple formula for preventing the leftist violence. The Canadians used it for an IMF (I think) Meeting.

Pick a resort at least a days foot travel from a short list of block points, put the road blocks in. Since you control the entire resort for the duration of the conference, no disruptors. The Canadians used the grand resort at Banff, there were no protests that year. I am sure there are equivalent places that could be used in Argentina, or most other countries they hold these types of meeting in.

Thus I suspect that someone wants the leftist violence or possibly something else that can be obtained much more easily at a major city than at a resort.
