House Democrats Release 2019 Legislative Schedule
rollcall ^ | November 29, 2018

Calendar reflects accommodations for members with young families, Hoyer says

House Democrats have released the chamber’s floor schedule for 2019, which includes 130 days in session over 33 weeks and was tailored to accommodate the influx of lawmakers with young families joining the House next year.

“As we welcome a large class of new members, many with young families, next year’s schedule is focused on balancing time in Washington with time for Members to conduct work in their districts and spend time with their families,” incoming House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland said in a statement accompanying the calendar’s release.

The House will be in recess, or a “district work period,” for at least a week each month, except for June. That will be partially offset by a late summer break from the Capitol that is scheduled to go from July 29 to Sept. 6.

Divided government.

Most of the Democrats’ agenda will be stopped in the Republican-controlled Senate, unless they compromise on infrastructure.

Period.

McConnell should retire, he is too old to be SML.

Give Cornyn or some younger GOPer the position.

Its been argued in the past that “the public” is actually more comfortable with divided government. Basically government that can accomplish very little other then maintain the “status quo”. I think there is some truth in that.

To me there is one thing and one thing only I want from the Senate. That is the continued confirmation of Trump’s judges. Mitch has done an admirable job on that front. With the new Senate, all of girly boy Jeff Flake’s crap won’t matter for poop. Mitch will get a ton conformed.

You get judges, treaties, and trade deals confirmed by the Senate.

That is only an argument heard when democrats are not in control of Congress.

"Anything the Nancy boys & girls pass are DOA in the Senate!"

Noting that Trump economy will probably help Trump in 2020, consider that House Democrats are likely going to use most of their energy and Soros’s money for next two years to campaign for 2020 election year on the basis of Trump / Republican obstructionism.

Speaking of 2020, Pres. Trump needs to enforce 12th Amendment to stop unconstitutional (imo) state winner-take-all laws for electoral votes.

He also needs to enforce Section 2 of the 14th Amendment to make sure that only citizens vote. To enforce Sec. 2, citizens will probably need to present citizenship / photo ID cards in order to vote.

From our viewpoint yes but from the average person who doesn’t live & breath politics like here on FR I don’t think so! “Status quo” is what most people want because it requires the least effort. If you did ask them. They would like say something different. They would want to appear to another that they’re “public spirited” but actually not so much in everyday life. Everything defaults to “status quo” unless something big happens in one’s life to shake the complacency!

It doesn’t have to be a conscious act to prefer (or vote for!) divided government. What you described pretty much defaults to it.

looks like they don’t plan on working too hard .. can’t blame ‘em for that though: the only thing they can accomplish is kabuki theater and shut down the government via unacceptable funding bills ...

Which is exactly what is going to happen!
Now the question is does the GOP have the PR ability to spin the “shut down” blame back at them? Of course the answer is no but Trump just might!

133 days is too long. I think 1 week a month in dc and 3 at their districts. They should be among voters way more then they are.
