Didn't Neil DeGrasse Tyson work as a male stripper while in college or grad school? You wouldn't exactly expect someone with that kind of job history to be the most wholesome or family-friendly man in the world.

Regardless, I used to enjoy Tyson's pop-astronomy writings before he became explicitly political and obnoxious.

I actually made the case that merely “creepy” isn’t illegal.

The social event was sponsored by his professional organization. Of course it was a mixer and a networking event. Thus, a fortiori, he was giving some representation of his professional employers.

He grabbed the lady’s arm, noticed the tattoo followed beyond the exposed part of the arm, and peered into her dress to follow the tattooed image on her body.

I guess it’s just me, but I don’t go physically manipulating women to get a view down their dresses. If someone who worked for me did that at a party my business sponsored, it is likely they would be unemployed.

It sounds strange to say, but I agree with both of your analyses, although you conflict.

Now, the humor:

“Kneel on De Grass Tyson!”

“AAS didn’t have a mechanism for reporting sexual harassment in 2009”

2009?

Um, yeah, I tend to doubt that.

And anyway, local municipalities did.

Pardon me for asking, but did she report it?

If AAS didn’t have a mechanism in 2009, she’d have been forcing the organization into new territory. There are a variety of reasons why she may have chosen not to do so, including, feeling like although it was a big deal, it wasn’t quite big enough to cause an organizational rupture. Especially pitting herself against a world-renowned celebrity scientist before the advent of metoo. At the time, she may have thought it would pose a risk to her career, which it probably would have.

As to reporting it to law enforcement, she may not have believed it rose to a criminal level. Barring other details to change my own mind, I’d agree with that assessment.

He tried to take the Carl Sagan mantle, but his schtick is not working. He is unoriginal. Big atheist advocate, I felt sorry for his children when I heard Tyson talk about how fake the Bible was. God can change hearts - this man needs faith, especially with what he is about to endure.

One of my favorite movie lines, father to daughter’s date: “I got a .45 and a shovel. No one will miss you.”

Because blatant misandry in movies is not only OK, it's fun and hilarious.

Yeah that 2018 encounter is straight-up punting for a quick sexcapade, and the cheesy stroke-finger ‘handshake’! Ha, quel dommage.

"I just read today that Matt Lauer is having a VERY hard time being unemployed, and his ‘estranged wife’ won’t even talk to him (while she makes a big cash grab via their divorce), unless it’s about something to do with their children. How the mighty have fallen! Loving it! :)"

Absolutely! Punch down or punch up, whatever, on these rat bastards. The shiksa Michelle "Maybe They're Just Bad People" Goldberg hoisted herself on her own petard with her NYeT screech just last week:

"Reading Baron’s story helped me realize emotionally something I knew intellectually (ed note: *snicker*. I'll bet.). It’s tempting for those of us who interpret politics for a living to overstate the importance of competing philosophies. We shouldn't forget the enduring role of sheer vanity."

Well, it's hard not to forget "sheer vanity" when you're as fugly as Goldberg. Lewinsky apparently gave some of these mutts too much hope in themselves...

There are freaking derelicts wandering past the NYT building right now who make more sense than half their op-ed writers....

And as for Kneel DeGross Tyson, what a shock that the permanent sophomoric misogyny that permeates the atheist ‘community’ would have found a home in Kneel DeGross.
