"Our goal is to defend against potential voter fraud but not make it difficult to vote," Sen. Joyce Krawiec (Forsyth & Yadkin) told lawmakers on Wednesday when she introduced the bill to committee. "We've been exceptionally transparent and no one will be disenfranchised from voting."

Two Democrats--Sen. Joel Ford (D-Mecklenberg) and Sen. Don Davis (Greene, Lenoir, Pitt & Wayne)--joined Senate Republicans to vote in favor of the bill Thursday.

The 16 page SB824 on Voter ID earned three votes from @NCSenateDems, while @MyNCSenate endorsed six amendments to the bill. @JoelBrownABC11 has a great recap of what it all means: https://t.co/Mjq6FZCjYb @ABC11_WTVD #ncpol #ncga

The remaining Democrats, however, cited their request for more time to implement Voter ID as a main reason to oppose the bill.

"This still feels somewhat rushed," Sen. Terry Van Duyn (D-Buncombe County) asserted. Democrats want Republicans to slow down--insisting the GOP is trying to jam the voter ID rules through while they still have enough members to override any veto from Gov. Roy Cooper.

The last voter ID law in NC was thrown out by the courts.

This time, the voters of NC voted in favor of a NC Constitutional amendment that establishes Voter ID requirement.

Gov. Cooper, Demonrat, will likely veto this new voter ID law but the NC House and Senate as of NOW, have enough votes to override his veto. Starting in January, they will no longer have this “super” majority.

So the Dems are saying this is being “rushed” through the Legislature.

I say, good for the Republicans!

I don’t know his current stand on this voter ID bill but he is an up and coming “star” of the Demonrat party which opposes voter ID’s.

For that reason alone, I believe he will veto this bill. Gotta follow his Democrat masters.

Here is a statement from a related news article about this subject:

“Meeting now is strategic. Democrats won enough legislative seats Election Day to end the Republicans’ veto-proof control come January. So Cooper, a longtime opponent of voter photo ID laws, won’t be able to stop any lame-duck session bills as long as Republicans remain united.”

Every precinct in every state should vigorously enforce Voter ID otherwise US citizens are disenfranchised (women and minority’s hit hardest).

I agree. But there has to be a law on the books for Voter ID to work....and in NC’s case, that original voter ID law was thrown out by the courts as being “vote suppressive”.

So that led to the constitutional amendment which passed overwhelmingly this November.

That should make this new voter ID measure court-proof.

The first Judge who ruled on the original NC Voter ID law - ruled in favor of it......and that Judge was a Bush appointee.

The next court that threw it out was the 4th Circuit District Appeals Court....and I do not know who appointed these judges but am trying to find out.

That appeals court threw out the first NC Voter ID law and the US supreme court (led by Justice Roberts) refused to hear the case so the “thrown out” case was the result.

Predictable. Dems oppose because they’re in favor of voter fraud. But they can’t come out and say it, so they hang it on some lame pretext or other.

That vote is veto proof and hoping the House has a similar vote.

Found out the Chief Judge of the fourth circuit court of appeals is a Clinton appointee.

Exactly = which is why the constitutional amendment which voters in NC overwhelmingly approved this November was such a smart move. Now it should be very difficult to overturn a voter ID law....based on the new constitutional authority.

Voter ID is a good start. Next every state needs a law that no precincts are allowed to call voter tallies until every precint is finished counting

A Constitutional Amendment helps solidify Voter ID on all States that don’t yet have it!

This needs to be done on a federal level for all states. And before anyone cries that it is a state issue- You are wrong. It can be done for federal elections.

What we really need is a constitutional Amendment that causes Voter ID, and fixes a bunch of other issues that allow cheating as well. But there are too many programed liberals in the USA today for that to ever happen.
