NJ ranks No. 1 for millennials still living with their parents

EDISON - It seems that more millennials are still living with their parents after graduating college, according to a report by the United States Census Bureau.

The report found that 47 percent of adults ages 18 to 34 are still living at home in New Jersey, the highest percentage in the nation.

Students at Middlesex County College tell News 12 New Jersey that factors like rent, car payments and other expenses leave them with no other option but to continue to live at home.

I have a long time friend who’s exactly in that situation.

Exceptin’ the daughter was spared the rod and got a little too PC with the wrong crowd and all. Drugs, smack, prostitution, etc. In and out of rehab, now “happily” living at home . . . again

With the daughter and formerly “estranged” hubby, who at least has a responsible job

The economy is not what it used to be years ago.

This is a changing economy.

Home prices are too expensive, student debt, America needs more job growth.

Ditto. Later, I spent a few (3 maybe?) months back with Mom and Dad while Hubby was in basic training in San Antonio in 1971. I would be a bag lady before I’d live with my parents.

There is nothing wrong with a multigenerational household. There is safety in numbers. And pawning our elderly off on the Government is cruel. Not to mention the risks a woman on her own faces.

In 1966, two weeks after turning 18, I was in USAF basic training.

Following Honorable D, I was in a college degree program withing a week.

I used the GI Bill to my advantage, and just never quit working.

My "kids" (one a Veteran and one still serving) are always working, always improving.

My liberal friends somehow do not understand this work hard and be responsible imperative. (And, their kids still live at home.)

Not surprising. Even if you make $50-60K, you may not be able to afford your own apartment in NJ.

I’m in NJ, 48 years old, I do quite well for myself and I still struggle with the cost of housing and expenses here, mostly the property taxes. That said, I left home at 17 for the military, and have never been back with my parents since.

My kids are both in college, one at OU, the other at Arizona and I hope they both pursue their futures in those states or somewhere similar. NJ is quite honestly a $hithole these days. Wasn’t always that way. It was nice at one time not too long ago. The last 20 years have been sad to see where this state has gone.

After WW2 ended my father-in-law stayed in his parents home until her married at the age of 26. Ditto my father who was 25.

My mother and mother in-law also stayed home until marriage at ages 21 and 23.

My sister-in-law brought up her child in her parents home. Fifteen years in the house.

I don’t understand the hysteria of it all.

I think more would move out if their parents said “no pre-marital sex while you are under our roof.” There is no incentive to go out and form your own family if you can “get it” while living at home.

I didn’t say I bought a house at 17. I said I moved out and became my own man.

It was what was expected.

There hasn’t been better job growth in decades.

This is about little coddled babies who are infantilized until adulthood. And are OK with that.

In NJ, $200,000/year household income is pretty much middle class... A decent home in many areas is $600k+, with $12,000-$16,000 annual property taxes.

And now with Governor “Setting Myself Up to Run for President” Murphy, and a democrap-dominated state legislature, it won’t get better anytime soon, if ever.

So a generation of stupidity explains it all.

There is NO REASON for college debt beyond a few grand. State schools in EVERY state in the union provide the same level of indoctrination as expensive private schools.

Kids who take on a lot of college debt have parents who were unable to explain how Life Works.

I got some student loans but I Understood what I was signing up for and I paid them off starting the moment I had my first job.

The “Student Loan Crisis” is the same as the “Mortgage Crisis” — a bunch of stupid people making stupid decisions guided by the idea that future debt is not real.

And I again blame the parents. My mom told me from as long as I could remember that the first thing that makes a Man is he pays his debts.
