Privacy Violation: A Massachusetts landlord has asked a Harvard University graduate student to move out of her apartment after her roommates pilfered through her belongings and found her legally-owned handguns.

As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, the student, Leyla Pirnie, says that Dave Lewis, president of Avid Management, asked her to move because now her roomies feel “uncomfortable” knowing there are guns about.

“Since it’s clear that Leyla wants to keep her firearms, it would be best for all parties if she finds another place to live,” he told the website in an email.

I didn’t know you could legally own a handgun in Massachusetts. It’s very close to impossible in NYC, unless you are a cop, a paid bodyguard (for celebrities and diamond merchants) or a rich celebrity (like Howard Stern).

Has the ACLU been notified? There appears to be at least 3 or 4 violations to the U.S. Constitution just in the first 3 sentences of this story.

Paging ACLU.....

Go through the lease. Find out where it says that having a legally owned firearm is grounds for eviction. If it isn’t there, get a lawyer and sue him for harassment and intimidation and force him to evict her.

A landlord has the right to restrict firearms on his property. It was probably in the lease.

I think it’s stupid. But the landlord makes the rules.

I live in Massachusetts. I own one. So do most of my friends and neighbors. It depends on your city or town. The chief of police must approve your permit.

I’m shocked.

I live in LA and practically everyone has guns, lots of them.

Why is NY so different?

Owning a handgun is a problem in Boston, but the rest of MA it’s fairly easy. There are plenty of restrictions on WHAT you can buy, but you take a class and pay your fee.

This so called “landlord” is violating her Second Amendment rights. She needs to sue the hell out of his ass and become the joint’s new landlord.

You need a permit in Massachusetts before you can even buy a hand gun?

Since it is clear she wants to keep her SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS...............

She should be asking why the roommates were allowed to dig through her stuff, and then throw them out a window.

I understand the landlords inclination. The other inhabitants of the house pilfer, and paw through the gun owner’s stuff. Of course it isn’t going to end well.

Massachusetts Law requires firearm owners to be licensed through their local Police Department or the Massachusetts State Police if no local licensing authority is available. A license is required by state law for buying firearms and ammunition. An applicant must have passed a State approved firearm safety course before applying for a license.

All applications, interviews, fees, and fingerprinting are done at the local Police Department then sent electronically to the Massachusetts Criminal History Board for the mandatory background checks and processing. All approved applicants will receive their license from the issuing Police Department. All licensing information is stored by the Criminal History Board. Non residents who are planning on carrying in the state must apply for a temporary license to carry (LTC) through the State Police before their travel.
