Marion Maréchal, the niece of Rassemblement National (National Rally) leader Marine Le Pen, revealed she attended the Paris Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vest) protests on Saturday and claimed to witness violence coming from left-wing extremists.
Ms Maréchal, who dropped the ‘Le Pen’ from her name, also said that by the time violence erupted at the iconic Champs-Élysées, the real members of the movement had already left.
Saying she arrived shortly after 2 pm, she said, “When I arrived on the Champs-Élysées, the real ‘Yellow Vests’ were long gone. The movement was totally absorbed by left-wing activists. We heard: ‘death to capitalism!’ If this is the far-right, it has changed.”
“It is a popular movement and completely apolitical. If that had not been the case, I would not have acted in the same way and not have provided the same support,” she added.
The statement is not the first political comment made by Maréchal since stepping down as a member of parliament. In February, and to the consternation of the mainstream media, she delivered a speech at the American Conservative Union’s CPAC conference describing her beliefs and the state of France to an American audience in Washington D.C.
Her support of the Yellow Vest movement coincides with that of her aunt, Marine Le Pen, who has been a vocal supporter and slammed President Emmanuel Macron Tuesday following his speech to the movement saying, “The total confusion of the presidential speech and the absolute emptiness in terms of solutions are striking.”

Maybe I'm misunderstaning your references above, but it's hard to imagine a Lefty being invited to address CPAC.

Marion Marechal and her aunt Marine need to be distinguished. They are very different in terms of their foundational worldviews - namely because Marion is religious (Catholic) and has the trust of France's social conservatives while her aunt is more secular and polarizing even among conservatives.
BOTH however agreed to change the Party name 'Front National' to 'National Rally' or whatever because of the former's link with their founder's Jean Marie Le Pen's anti-Semitism.

I’ve listened to some of Marion le Pen’s talks. She is NOT a leftist.

Not knowing very much French(or than “Merci beaucoup!”) I am at a disadvantage at reading from the source material, which I prefer and relying on interpretations from dubious sources.
Being called racist or anti-Semitic has lost all it’s ‘punch” by overuse by one’s foes who have nothing left to argue. (See Donald Trump)
So the “National Front” or newly branded “”National Rally” means little except what actions I see them doing. Especially compared to those shouting “Anti Semite” at them while embracing the likes of Nassar Arafat and his ilk and their agenda.

No but you were right to point out the unfortunate origins of the National Front Party. It is a shame that anti-Semitism and Nazi-style nationalism have obstructed meaningful conservative movements throughout Europe all these years!
With the new generation though hopefully that toxic baggage will be dropped. That’s what Marechal envisions for France, I pray with God’s blessing. :)
Agreed, but Europe's so called "right wing" parties genuinely do have elements that do not mark mainstream American conservatism. The founder of the National Front Party, Jean Marie Le Pen outright denied the Holocaust...
This kind of thing has held back meaningful conservatism from gaining traction in European countries for decades.
Even now, it is important to recognize that Europe's problem found their roots since before the migrant crisis. Not everything can be pinned or blamed on Muslims.
