The statue should be purchased from the university and placed in a prominent location OFF campus. Then, The University of North Carolina can be officially declared a Yankee institution and get all of it’s support and funding from Yankees. The people of North Carolina can disown them.
IMO the statue should be replaced where it was as it was.

A huge number of the “protesters” who tore down the statue did not really care about what the statue represented...They only saw the opportunity to get out and agitate...

You are correct. You and I agree on this. I simply see the perps as the University itself and think the university should not be trusted with the statue or it's protection. I also think that the university should be forced to pay a price for what it has done by declaring it a Yankee institution once and for all. The university then can beg for money from Antifa types and folks who don't care about the history of North Carolina. It's time to call a spade a spade and elevate the argument to where it actually hurts those allowing this crap to fester.
Yes, proposing such and expenditure was a passive-aggressive way to get others to take the blame for not continuing to honor what this statue represents. The admin already passive-aggressively decided not to allow police to apprehend obvious law-breakers and vandals, telling police to stand down and let them topple it instead of making them work through the system to have the statue removed, such as holding public debates or teaching the students how to work with their state legislature to get a bill passed. Instead, they encouraged their students to act like thugs, who got away with no consequences.
I haven't taken sides in this issue; but to spend a couple of million on a new building when there are loads of buildings on that campus seems excessive.
True but any UNC grad that votes democrat is voting for escalation of violence and socialism.
