U.S. manufacturing so good factories are turning to high school students for labor

Winning: On the campaign trail in 2016, then-GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump talked of renewing America’s manufacturing potential after decades of decline due to “horrible” trade deals like NAFTA that, he said, led to the loss of tens of thousands of jobs.

After just two years, thanks to POTUS Trump’s economic policies of deregulation, tax relief, and other business-friendly measures, the U.S. economy is soaring and manufacturing, especially, is booming.

In fact, as UPI notes, the manufacturing industry is expanding so fast factories are having difficulty finding enough workers to fill open positions.

Try telling stories like this to the NeverTrump free trade purists. They’ll plug their ears and insist that tariffs and the looming “trade war” with China will lead to the biggest economic catastrophe since the Great Depression, in spite of all the recent growth in US industry.

Good to hear but it’s about 15 years too late for me. Last two presidents didn’t seem to care much about us loosing manufacturing.

Those who have just graduated from high school and take training classes that prepare them for the manufacturing have a leg up on those who have gone to the crippling college indoctrination programs.

Isn’t this child abuse to expect and teenager to work? Shouldn’t they be allowed to stay home and leach off of parents until they are in their 30’s? /s/

I’m in manufacturing. Our biggest problem is finding workers who can pass the drug testing.

Same. We’ll deal with a lot of issues - tardiness, laziness, etc - in order to keep the drug free employees coming in.

Over 50% that apply can’t pass the test. I imagine some of the industries with security clearance requirements have an even more difficult time.

If I can never pass but one test in my life, I can pass a drug one.

And across the country Technical High Schools are EDUCATING and TRAINING their students who will in huge numbers graduate having been recruited by talent/ability seeking companies..
A TECH High School nearby has a large percent of suniors actually “signed up to a job” by April of senior year.

That’s nice. Someone getting out of prison should pass the drug test in most cases.

“Someone getting out of prison should pass the drug test in most cases.”

And working hard for decent money 60 hours a week and coming home exhausted is probably a pretty damn good way to stay out of trouble.

I think the lack of stable, but tough, jobs is a big reason for recidivism.

Sot of of topic, but some Chinese factories employ up to 500,000 (five hundred thousand) people.

Things would be soooo great if it wasn’t for the Democrat’s constant temper tantrums.
