Paris riots show difficulty of fighting climate change with taxes

PARIS -- The "yellow vests" in France are worrying greens around the world.

The worst riots in Paris in decades were sparked by higher fuel taxes, and French President Emmanuel Macron responded by scrapping them Wednesday. But taxes on fossil fuels are just what international climate negotiators, meeting in Poland this week, say are desperately needed to help wean the world off of fossil fuels and slow climate change.

Macron said the higher tax was his way of trying to prevent the end of the world. But the yellow vest protesters turned that around with the slogan: "it's hard to talk about the end of the world while we are talking about the end of the month."

The resistance to the fuel tax is a personal blow to Macron, who sees himself as the guarantor of the 2015 Paris climate accord, its strongest defender on the global stage. He has positioned himself as the anti-Trump when it comes to climate issues.

Their problem is they didn’t tax enough.

To combat global warming you need 99% of every European’s income (except for the leaders, of course).

These yellow jackets just don[t understand that for every tax Euro gathered by the government, a small % of Global Warming is halted. Get enough Euros and the Earth is saved! YAY!

How exactly does one stop the climate from changing by surrendering one’s money to government?

Am I to conclude that if man had never created currency or government that there would be no hope whatsoever of stopping the climate from changing, which is what the climate has done and will continue to do since God created climate?

Do people have any concept at all of just how stupid they actually are?

Globull Warming Hoax taxes - just the latest attempt to confine the serfs to their temporary housing, cold, in the dark, and unwilling to reproduce. Cause once the world is rid of the serfs, life would be so good.

I wish these elites would get to experience life as they want it - nobody to do the work needed to keep life civilized. They wouldn’t last a month. Would make a great Twilight Zone episode.

The intellectual argument is that you’d get all angry about diesel and gas taxes....then realize battery cars had zero tax, and brilliance would occur on your part....to dump the silly gas/diesel car and buy a battery car for two to three times the cost of a gas/diesel car.

If you go and look at laws passed in Germany in 2017...they mandated that the last gas/diesel ‘new’ car to be sold....will occur in 2029, with 2030 being NO gas or diesel new cars allowed on the market place. Same crowd, demanding that you have no choice....you will have to go this route.

How dare they! They are not my mother. They don’t know better than us. They just want the money.

But it was a bridge too far.

People are stretched to the limit. The government will be hard pressed to squeeze more blood out of this turnip without great pain being foisted on THEM.

A bunch of uber-rich 1%ers get in a room to “fight” global warming.

Their solution?

Raise taxes on the poor.

And they can’t see the consequences....

Not surprisingly, the article argues for government against the governed. And the utility of thwarting representative governance by means of deceit.

At this point I’d say the French have more guts than the average Washington state resident.

At least the average Seattleite, anyway.

“it’s hard to talk about the end of the world while we are talking about the end of the month.”

OR

“It’s hard to talk about the end of the world when these carbon taxes make it hard to pay bills at the end of the month.”

Perfect response.

They need to start with cleaning up their polluted water and air. Crapping where you drink and bathe is not conducive to a clean environment.

Enviros always say:

By far the biggest thing you can do to reduce global warming is by having ONE FEWER CHILD. Everything else pales by comparison.

So....in fact France (and all of Europe) is ALREADY doing the most important enviro conservation thing, while Africa is the biggest offender.

Shouldn’t lefty efforts center on AFRICA..?

That is, IF they’re telling the truth.

It is pretty hard to have an intelligent conversation with people on this subject.

Christian approach: The bible says there is no climate change.

Science approach: The models are worthless, a few atoms per million can't magically heat up all the rest of the million.
