Barr, 68, a well-respected Republican lawyer who served as attorney general from 1991 to 1993 under President George H.W. Bush, has emerged as a favorite candidate of a number of Trump administration officials...Administration officials expect Barr’s nomination would be received positively by Republicans who respect his experience and Democrats who would likely view him as an old-school GOP lawyer with no particular personal loyalty to the president.

Washington Post:

"Barr shares at least one of the president’s views on the probe being conducted by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III. In 2017, when asked by The Washington Post about political donations made by lawyers on the special counsel’s team, Barr said “prosecutors who make political contributions are identifying fairly strongly with a political party” and added: “I would have liked to see [Mueller] have more balance on this group.”

A former GHW Bush AG is almost surely an establishment lifer and would never make a serious effort to let justice take its course in pursuing the extensive criminal activity that pervaded the Obama admin and Hillary state department.

I agree. Trump won’t do this. This has as much credibility as Romney being selected for Secretary of State. Remember that one?

As someone else said on an earlier thread ... Trump could do worse.

The Democrats would raise holy hell about this nomination simply on the basis of Barr's harsh criticism of Roe v. Wade over the years.

There are pros and cons to this guy, for sure.

“This has to be more Fake News!”

Notice no matter how often it happens, people still buy right in here too.
Can you blame the public when they do too?

Nope.

Trump interviewed a lot of wrong people during his transition like Mitt Romney, Chris Christie ...

It’s what he does.

He’s holding back a choice he’s already made while parading those he will not select before establishment types and media stooges.

He’s trolling them. They get a chance to feel they own part of the pageant final ten. Then he brings out the real selectee without announcement. It gives those who thought they owned a part of it feel that at least they had a back and forth talk time while at the same time leaving the liar media minimal time to write fiction on the true choice.

I remember the Bush41 admin. Barr was a quiet, non-boat rocking nonentity. If nominated he will be confirmed and he will do little to upset anyone’s applecart.

Re: “The Democrats would raise holy hell about this nomination simply on the basis of Barr’s harsh criticism of Roe v. Wade over the years.”

I can’t find any “harsh” criticism by Barr concerning Roe v. Wade.

During Barr’s AG confirmation in 1991, he stated that the “Right to Privacy” is in the Constitution.

However, he did not believe the “Right to Privacy” extends to abortion.

He stated that abortion law should be decided by state legislators.

In 1991, all eight Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to confirm William Barr as Attorney General.
