The Riots In France Aren’t Just About Gas Taxes, But About The West’s Decline
The Federalist ^ | December 7, 2018 | Auguste Meyrat

This past week, Parisians in yellow safety vests took to the streets to riot against French leadership. They have defaced the Arc de Triomphe, thrown rocks at policemen and soldiers, and lit fires all over the city. Macron literally had egg on his face and continues to suffer abysmal approval ratings, while the current protests enjoy high approval ratings in the country, despite the destruction.

Most commentary (which happened all over France, not just Paris) has focused on the fuel tax increase as the main reason for the protests, as though the French have never paid exorbitant taxes before. It has also characterized the yellow vest protests as a recent event, but they had been going on for weeks before they became violent these past few days.

Macron and the French media have unsurprisingly tried to pin the protests and riots on Marine Le Pen’s racist minions without evidence, while residents in France have claimed that the protesters are mostly middle-aged Frenchmen with no political affiliation.

Most of the reporting on the recent French riots has been inaccurate.

This is a good article that explains it.

The middle class are desperately trying to stop the willful destruction of their way of life.

Let’s hope all in the West follow suit including us.

“People have long complained of France losing its soul by becoming a secularized, progressive, socialist welfare state shortly after two miserable losses in the two world wars. After being known for its fine arts, beautiful landscapes, rich Catholic tradition, genius philosophers and scientists, and famous monuments, people now see France as a stagnant irrelevant pool of decadence.”

The prices of apartments in Paris are very expensive.

Ungrateful Muslims living in the banlieus on the taxpayers’ tab must upset the French.

Taxes are high. Any increase is unwelcome.

Provincial France long has had economic problems. France is centralized in expensive Paris.

Macron’s arrogance, common in French leaders, has made the situation worse.

Terrorism has hurt the French economy. The French are upset about that too.

The French, the most heavily taxed nation in Europe, just had enough of it. The government just squandered their money.

The French also don’t like being lied to.

Western governments, including both parties here, have been flooding their countries with foreigners to dilute the native populations.

US governments could teach the French how to squander money.

There are 2 Paris’s.

The one the tourists see, the Louvre and Eiffel tower.

Then there is the grimy city that the residents have to live in with tiny expensive old apartments that are falling apart.

Or you live outside town and try to commute very expensively.

Then you look on the Internet and look and see what other people are doing with their disposable income when you have none and it’s about to become even less.

Or at happy tourists that snap their pictures and leave.

But we’re not rioting over it, burning our cities.

I really do see the UK as key in this whole thing. They shouldn’t be on the periphery but instead should be running things, though not the Teresa May’s of the world. The Continental types, the elites there, are a bunch of fools, and that seems to be an institutional problems since every generation seems to produce its own Junkers who end up being celebrated for some incomprehensible reason and handed power.

“The Continental types, the elites there, are a bunch of fools”

They are arrogant, but they are not fools.

Merkel made a mistake thinking the draft dodging Syrians would be like the come to Germany to work Turks.

As for May, she’s getting bad advice.

I’m in Paris and Dubai quite a bit for work. Give me Paris any day. Dubai is a facade, all bling with nothing behind it. If it weren’t for laundering the Saudi’s money they’d still be living in tents and screwing goats instead of Russian hookers.

Do the actual French people want change change, or just change?

Because, one is more expensive than the other, and they will have to choose.
